Best Schools for University Placement in Singapore
Where Singapore's international schools actually send leavers. Oxbridge, US T20, Go8 and Asian top-tier patterns, school by school.
The brief
- Largest US T20 pipeline: UWCSEA Dover places around 30% of leavers into US top-20 universities, the deepest American-research-university channel outside the US.
- Strongest US specialist: Singapore American School runs the world's largest AP cohort outside America, with 85% scoring 4 to 5 and a mean of 4.38 in 2025; SAT middle 50% 1310 to 1510.
- Strongest UK pathway: Tanglin Trust posted IB DP 39.1 in 2024 plus A-Level *33% A\/A**, with regular Oxbridge offers and HMC-tier UK alumni reach.
- Strongest accreditation stack: Dulwich College holds CIS, WASC, BSO, COBIS; 2025 IB DP 37.1, IGCSE *74% A\/A**, structurally engineered for Russell Group and Ivy applications.
- Best Asian-university channel: ACS (Independent) (IB DP 41.2 in 2024) and Hwa Chong International (IB DP 38.3 in 2025) place heavily into NUS, NTU, HKU, Tsinghua.
Singapore is the strongest international-school market in Asia for university outcomes, and one of the strongest in the world. UWCSEA, SAS, Tanglin, Dulwich, NLCS Singapore, and Stamford American all publish detailed destination lists; the same names recur, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE; Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Chicago, Columbia, Penn. UWCSEA Dover alone sends roughly 30% of every graduating class to the US top-20, a ratio almost no school outside the United States matches. The Asian top tier, NUS, NTU, HKU, Tsinghua, Peking, Tokyo, takes a meaningful share of leavers across the market.
What separates the top from the mid-tier is rarely the qualification. It is counselling depth, institutional relationships, and the cohort admissions offices have been reading for decades. A US admissions officer reading 200 SAS transcripts a year knows what an SAS B+ signals. A Cambridge admissions tutor knows what a Tanglin predicted A\A\A means.
How to read destination lists
Schools publish destinations in three forms.
Counts by university. UWCSEA, Tanglin, Dulwich, and Stamford American publish year-by-year lists with acceptances against each university. A school sending 18 students to Imperial over five years is structurally different from one that sent its single best student there once.
Counts by region only. "30% to the US, 25% to the UK." Shape, not depth.
A logo wall. Crests with no numbers. The strongest student got into Oxford once; the other 99 leavers went elsewhere.
The second filter is cohort size. A 20-student cohort sending two students to Imperial outperforms a 200-student cohort sending four on a per-capita basis.
The third filter is regional mix. UWCSEA Dover sends roughly 30% to the US, 25% to the UK, 15% to Asia, 10% to Canada. Tanglin tilts British. SAS tilts heavily American. Schools rarely change this mix; the channel a school is built for is the channel it serves.
The strongest schools
UWCSEA Dover and East

Dover Road and Tampines. Ages 4 to 18. Dover founded 1971, East 2008. CIS and WASC accredited. Around 3,000 pupils per campus. 2025 IB DP 36.4 across both campuses, 98.7% pass rate.
The deepest American-research-university pipeline outside the United States. Roughly 30% of every UWCSEA Dover graduating class matriculates at a US top-20 university, a figure that has held across more than a decade of published destinations. Multi-year data shows annual matriculations at Stanford, MIT, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Chicago, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, Northwestern, Duke, and the UC system. The UK side carries equal weight: regular Oxbridge offers, plus Imperial, UCL, LSE, Edinburgh, Durham, and St Andrews.
A team of college counsellors works exclusively with senior-school students; region specialists handle US, UK, Canada, Australia, Asia, and Europe separately. Two-decade trend data lets the team predict admissions probabilities with a precision smaller schools cannot match. The CAS, service-learning, and Project Week spine produces the application narrative US admissions reward. East mirrors Dover; the choice between them is geography.
Singapore American School

Woodlands. Ages 3 to 18. Founded 1956. WASC accredited. Around 4,100 pupils.
The strongest US university pipeline of any school in Asia. SAS runs the largest AP programme outside the United States with 85% of 2025 scores at 4 or 5, mean 4.38. SAT 2025 middle 50% reached EBRW 640 to 750, Math 660 to 780, totals 1310 to 1510. Published destinations span Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Brown, Chicago, Duke, Northwestern, Cornell, Georgetown, Carnegie Mellon, USC, NYU, UCLA, Berkeley, Michigan, Vanderbilt, plus the liberal-arts colleges US-trained counsellors know to position students toward.
Six full-time college counsellors at the high school, most former US admissions officers or college counsellors. AP scores, US-style transcripts, and Common App familiarity are baseline. UK, Australian, and Canadian applications run as a secondary channel; a family targeting Oxford specifically fits better at Tanglin or Dulwich. SAS suits a family decided on the US; UWCSEA covers more ground from a single school.
Tanglin Trust School

Portsdown Road. Ages 3 to 18. Founded 1925. BSO-inspected 2022 and 2025. HMC member. Around 2,900 pupils.
The strongest UK destinations record in the city. The only Singapore school running IB Diploma and A-Level in parallel at scale: 2024 IB DP 39.1, A-Level *33% A\/A, 87% A\–B, 97% A\–C**. The senior school splits at the end of Year 11 between the two routes; roughly a third take A-Level, two-thirds take the IB Diploma.
Recent destinations include Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE, King's, Edinburgh, Durham, St Andrews, Bristol, Manchester, Warwick, with multiple annual T20 placements in the US. HMC membership signals where the institutional relationships sit; the 1925 founding gives a multi-generational alumni network in UK universities and the firms that recruit from them. Tanglin students applying to Oxbridge typically do so on three predicted A\*s; for families set on this route from age 13, Tanglin is the structural fit.
Dulwich College Singapore

Bukit Batok West Avenue. Ages 2 to 18. Founded 2014. CIS, WASC, BSO, COBIS all fully accredited. Around 2,700 pupils.
The strongest accreditation stack in Singapore, plus a deliberately engineered university guidance function. 2025 IB DP 37.1, 100% pass rate, IGCSE *74% A\/A, Cambridge A-Level option alongside. The university guidance team runs a four-year programme from Year 10. Recent destinations feature Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE, King's, Edinburgh, Durham; Yale, Penn, Columbia, Chicago, Brown, NYU, the UC system, Toronto**.
Dulwich Singapore is part of the wider Dulwich International network that runs an annual UCAS conference with UK admissions officers flown in. The Singapore-campus track record is twelve years deep. The Dulwich brand does not transfer wholesale from Dulwich Village; the accreditation, outcomes, and counselling infrastructure stand on their own.
North London Collegiate School Singapore

Depot Road. Ages 3 to 18. Founded 2020. CIS accredited, COBIS accredited member. Around 1,400 pupils.
The youngest top-tier school, with the highest concentration of high IB scorers in its early cohorts. 2024 IB DP 36.52, 20% scoring 40 or more, highest score 43. Cohorts are small at 70 to 90 graduating students, which produces a counsellor-to-student ratio comparable to or better than the larger schools.
Early destinations show heavy UK weighting (Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE, Warwick, Edinburgh, St Andrews), a meaningful US channel (Yale, Columbia, Penn, Chicago, Cornell), and growing Asian placement (NUS, HKU). The UK parent school in Edgware is one of the strongest academic girls' schools in England; that network now reaches the Singapore campus. NLCS Singapore is operationally earlier in its cycle than the schools above; the multi-cohort track record parents triangulate against is still being built.
Stamford American International School

Woodleigh Lane. Ages 1 to 18. Founded 2009. WASC and CIS accredited. Around 3,000 pupils.
The full IB-plus-AP dual-track in American operating culture. 2024 IB DP 34.4, 97% pass rate, 13% at 40+ points; AP average 3.5. The parallel IB Diploma and AP route at sixth form lets students take either, or a hybrid, depending on target universities.
Destinations skew US-strong: NYU, USC, UCLA, Berkeley, Michigan, Northwestern, Boston University, Cornell, Penn, and most of the Ivy in recent years. UK and Canadian destinations are present but secondary. Stamford American is the natural pick for an American family wanting IB alongside AP, or a non-American family wanting AP scores on the transcript without committing to a US-only high school diploma.
MOE-stream IB and the Asian-university channel
Three local-system schools run the IB Diploma: ACS (Independent), Hwa Chong International, and SJI International. ACS (Independent) posted IB DP 41.2 in 2024 and 41.6 in 2023, the strongest in Singapore. Hwa Chong International posted 38.3 in 2025, with 46.4% at 40+ points.
Destination lists show heavy placement into NUS, NTU, SMU, HKU, Tsinghua, Peking, Tokyo, plus the strongest UK and US universities for the most competitive students. For families targeting an Asian top-tier degree, these schools are structurally aligned in a way the Western-curriculum schools are not.
Two practical constraints apply for arriving expat families. Fee gating means international students pay full international rates. Quota gating caps foreign-passport admissions at MOE-funded schools (ACS Independent, Hwa Chong Institution). Hwa Chong International and SJI International, as CPE-registered international wings, avoid both.

What to watch for
Cohort size against claimed counts. "Twelve students into Oxbridge over five years" reads differently at 80 leavers a year (high per-capita) than at 250 (one or two a year, which any premium school should clear).
Where the median student went, not where the strongest student went. Every credible Singapore international school has placed someone into Cambridge, Stanford, or Imperial at some point. The patterned question is where the middle of the cohort lands. The middle is the better predictor for a similar new student.
Counsellor specialisation by region. One counsellor across US, UK, Australia, Canada, and Asia is best-effort across five different systems. A school with a US specialist, a UK specialist, and an Asia specialist has structural capacity.
When the counselling programme starts. Year 10 is the working baseline at the top schools. The American system is more forgiving of late starts because the application turns more on senior-year essay and SAT; the UK system is unforgiving because predicted grades and subject choice are locked by the end of Year 11.
Brand transfer. Dulwich Singapore is not Dulwich Village. NLCS Singapore is not NLCS Edgware. The Singapore campuses are credible and post strong outcomes; they are not extensions of the UK schools' direct admissions relationships with Oxbridge.

FAQs
Which Singapore school sends the most students to US top-20 universities?
UWCSEA Dover. Roughly 30% of every graduating class matriculates at a US top-20 university in a typical year, the deepest American-research-university pipeline outside the US. Singapore American School sends a comparable number but concentrated on US destinations across the full T50 and liberal-arts spectrum.
Which school is best for Oxbridge?
Tanglin Trust has the strongest combination of A-Level results (33% A\*/A in 2024), HMC membership, and a multi-generational UK alumni network. Dulwich College Singapore is structurally comparable on UK Russell Group outcomes via the IB Diploma. UWCSEA Dover places regularly into Oxford and Cambridge. NLCS Singapore has Oxbridge in its early cohort outcomes despite the 2020 founding. Oxbridge admission turns on the applicant more than the school; all four sit in the band where the school does not hold the application back.
Do US universities prefer the IB Diploma or AP?
Neither, structurally. US admissions read both fluently. AP fits a US-style GPA transcript. The IB Diploma fits a UK-style profile with predicted grades. SAS is built around AP; UWCSEA, NLCS, and Stamford American are built around IB. Tanglin and Dulwich offer both with IB as the default. Consistency across the transcript is the stronger signal; switching mid-school is usually a worse choice than committing to one.
Are MOE-stream IB schools worth the access friction?
For Asian-university targets, often yes. ACS (Independent) at IB DP 41.2 and Hwa Chong International at 38.3 sit at the top of the global range and place heavily into NUS, NTU, HKU, and the strongest mainland universities. Hwa Chong International and SJI International, as CPE-registered international wings, avoid the fee and quota gating that constrains the MOE-funded schools.
When should we start working with the university counselling team?
Year 10 is the working baseline. Subject selection for IB Higher Levels or A-Level choices is the first irreversible decision and happens at the end of Year 11. By Year 12 the application is being executed, not designed.
