In brief
An established Lasallian Catholic IB school on Thomson Road, one of three Singapore-MOE-overseen local international schools, with a strong values-driven culture and a 30 percent nationality cap.
SJI International opened its high school in 2007 and elementary in 2008, on a seven-hectare campus alongside its Singaporean sister school St Joseph's Institution. Brother Lawrence Humphrey serves as Brother President. The pathway runs IGCSE in Grades 9 and 10 followed by the IB Diploma in 11 and 12, with an SJI International Preschool in Holland Road added in 2024.
Families pick SJII for the values-led ethos, a calm and purposeful campus culture and the bilingual Mandarin programme, which parents repeatedly highlight as effective. The school is Catholic but openly welcomes families of other faiths. The 30 percent nationality cap and MOE-overseen local-international status mean a different student profile from the fully expat Tanglin or UWC, with a strong Singaporean core community alongside the international families.

Reviews
- Local opinion places SJI International in the second tier of Singapore international schools, behind UWCSEA and Tanglin but ahead of newer for-profit entrants. The IB cohort averaged 38 points in November 2025, well above the global 29.3.
- The community skews wealthy and is described by current and ex-students as more western-leaning than HCIS, with a higher mix of expats than ACS International. One ex-student wrote that "unless you're rich it's quite hard" and that some classmates spend heavily on "useless products".
- Parents and students value the structured IGCSE-to-IB pathway and the Lasallian Catholic ethos, which is applied without requiring students to be Catholic; only about 28% of the student body is. CEO Dr Michael Johnston framed the values as "respect, service and community".
- Teachers are well paid relative to the local market, with entry-level pay close to the upper end of MOE teacher salaries. One teacher-side post flagged the religion question on the application form as unusual for Singapore.
- The school remains a Singapore-citizen-eligible privately funded school, which keeps a sizeable Singaporean cohort and influences the academic culture; entry at Grade 7 is competitive, with cut-off marks shifting year to year.
