BISS Puxi is the western Puxi alternative to NAIS Pudong for British-curriculum families - similar Nord Anglia ownership, similar fee level, solid IB results, and good pastoral feedback. If you live on the Minhang or Huacao side of the city, this is the natural first call.

BISS Puxi opened in 2005 as a Nord Anglia school in Huacao, Minhang - the same western suburban belt as Shanghai American School's Puxi campus. With around 1,000 students from more than 50 nationalities, it operates at a scale where programmes are full but the pastoral team can still know your child. The British curriculum runs from Pre-Nursery through Year 6 (English National Curriculum), then into IGCSE and IB Diploma. A Dutch school is co-located on campus, adding a distinct European strand to an otherwise British-curriculum community.

IB results are solid: 34.5 average in 2024, above the worldwide average of around 30.5. The school's Nord Anglia-affiliated collaborations with MIT, Juilliard, and UNICEF give students access to real project-based work beyond the standard curriculum. Pastoral care gets consistently positive feedback in the parent community - families mention responsive communication, named tutors who follow students year-to-year, and a house system that creates a genuine sense of belonging. The school is particularly well-regarded for how it handles new-to-Shanghai families, with an established induction process.

The location is shared with a practical tension. Huacao puts BISS Puxi close to Shanghai American School's Puxi campus and the Costco belt of Minhang - convenient for families in western Puxi compounds but a 40-plus-minute drive from Jing An or the French Concession. Fees at RMB 271,600-385,090 place it at the same level as NAIS Pudong, and one-time fees add RMB 7,500-plus at entry. For families already based in Minhang, the value case is strong; for those living further east or in central Puxi, it requires an honest commute assessment.
