Harrow International School Shanghai
British-curriculum school - the only major international school in Shanghai offering A-Levels without an IB option - founded in 2016 in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Pudong. Fees for 2025-2026 range from RMB 273,800 (Cubs/Pre-Nursery) to RMB 385,300 (Years 12-13…
In brief
Pudong's youngest of the heavyweight British schools, with strong A Level outcomes and the AISL Harrow brand behind it.
Harrow Shanghai opened in 2016 on Gaoxi Road in Pudong, running the English curriculum into IGCSE and A Level for ages 18 months to 18 years. Around 800 students, BSO accredited, operated by AISL Harrow Schools, the Asian licensee that also runs Harrow Beijing, Hong Kong and Bangkok. A Level results have been strong since the first cohorts, with A* rates several times the UK national average and recent leaver cohorts collecting double-figure Oxbridge and Ivy League offers. Despite early plans for boarding, the campus has continued to operate as a day school in practice.
Families who choose Harrow tend to want the British single-sex pastoral framing and the leadership and service track, alongside academic results. The school is younger and smaller than Dulwich Pudong, which is the natural cross-shop. AISL Harrow rather than the UK Harrow School itself is the operator for families assuming a direct line back to the original.

Reviews
- Teacher-forum threads through 2024 describe a school under enrolment pressure. One commenter said Harrow Shanghai is "really struggling with numbers" and noted the campus's distance from central districts in an oversaturated Shanghai market.
- Outcomes are strong. International A Levels in 2023 reported around 71% A* to A grades, in line with the better-known Harrow group campuses.
- Operator and parent-aggregator material is consistently positive. Parents on profile pages describe holistic growth, a commitment to leadership and service, and engaged faculty.
- Cohort skew comes up in teacher discussion. Reviewers note the Shanghai market's wider shift toward wealthy Chinese families and ask whether that affects the school's international claim.
- Independent parent-voice signal in English is thin. The picture is built from operator pages, A Level results and a small number of teacher comments. Families weighing the school should read both the outcomes and the enrolment-pressure thread, and ask current parents about cohort mix at the year groups they are joining.

A Harrow parent himself, Mr. McAllister is committed to maintaining educational continuity and fostering the values-based ethos of the school. His leadership focus includes academic brilliance and preparing students for global leadership.
