IB Results in Doha

The brief

Doha's IB market is shallower than Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Around fifteen schools list an IB programme; only a handful publish recent Diploma results in a form parents can verify. The ones that do publish sit at the top of the fee table.

The city pattern is British primary plus DP at sixth form rather than the full continuum. DBS Wakra, DBS Ain Khaled and Compass run a UK primary into IGCSE, then offer the IB Diploma alongside A Levels at Year 12. Four schools run the full PYP, MYP and DP continuum under one roof: Qatar Academy Doha, ISL Qatar, SEK Qatar, and Swiss International School Qatar. Arab International Academy adds the Career-related Programme (CP). The American end is ACS Doha (American plus IB, founded 2020) and the American School of Doha (American with AP and IB at sixth form, founded 1988).

Ranked by published DP average

Six schools carry a verifiable recent DP number. Ranked highest to lowest.

1. Doha British School (Wakra and Rawdat Al Hamama)

Doha British School (Wakra). Ages 3 to 18. British curriculum into IB Diploma at sixth form. Around 3,000 pupils. Founded 1979.

Published 2024 DP average: 38 points, alongside *52% A\ or A at A Level** the same year. The highest published Diploma average in Doha, and a global top-decile number if cohort size and entry policy hold up. Cohort size is not published; ask directly.

2. American School of Doha

American School of Doha. Al Waab. Ages 3 to 18. American curriculum with both AP and IB Diploma. ~2,250 pupils, NEASC-accredited. Founded 1988.

Published DP average: 35 points (2019). ASD does not publish a more recent IB headline because most families exit on AP, not DP. The lead academic claim is the AP Scholar with Distinction count. For IB-only comparison the number is dated; the AP-and-IB dual exit is the actual offer.

3. Compass International School Doha

Compass International School Doha. Madinat Khalifa and Themaid. Ages 3 to 18. British primary into IB Diploma at Themaid. ~1,500 pupils. Nord Anglia. Founded 2017.

Published 2025 DP: 34.4-point average, 96% pass rate. Longer-run figures sit at 35 points with 93% pass. The same 2025 cohort posted *37% A\ or A at A Level and 90% A\–C at IGCSE* the year before. DP runs alongside A Levels so families can switch tracks late.

4. SEK International School Qatar

SEK International School Qatar. West Bay. Ages 3 to 18. Full IB continuum. ~500 pupils. Spanish SEK group. Founded 2013.

Published 2023 DP average: 32 points against the world average of 30.24 that year. The distinguishing features are scale and the multilingual layer (Spanish alongside English and Arabic), not the headline DP number.

5. Qatar Academy Doha

Qatar Academy Doha. Education City, Ar-Rayyan. Ages 2 to 18. Full IB continuum, triple-accredited (IB, CIS, NEASC). ~1,900 pupils. Qatar Foundation flagship. Founded 1995.

Published 2022 DP: 62 of 87 candidates passed (71%); top score 37/45; 47 bilingual diplomas. A 71% pass rate sits below the 81% global rate. Two caveats: the school is selective by Qatar Foundation standards and historically prioritises Qatari nationals as part of its mission, and the cohort is small enough that single-year results swing. Ask for multi-year data.

6. International School of London Qatar

ISL Qatar. North Duhail. Ages 3 to 18. Full IB continuum. ~1,190 pupils. Founded 2008.

Published recent top DP score: 43 points against a global average of 30. No school-wide average is published, which makes direct ranking impossible. The strongest selling point is the home-language programme across thirteen languages. A 43 is one student's result; the full distribution and cohort size belong on the same page.

How to read these numbers

A published DP average is one data point at one moment.

Cohort size matters more than the average. A 38 on 80 students says something different from a 38 on 12. Single-year averages on small cohorts swing five points either way. The three-year average and the cohort size belong alongside the headline.

Entry policy is the hidden variable. Schools that filter weaker candidates away from the Diploma at the end of IGCSE post higher averages than schools that admit anyone. Compass publishes pass rate alongside average, which helps calibrate; ASD does not.

The 2024 benchmark. Worldwide DP average 30.32, pass rate around 81%. Above 33 is strong globally; 35+ is regionally strong; 38+ is global top decile.

Schools with no public DP results

Four schools carry DP authorisation but do not publish averages or pass rates parents can verify: Beta Cambridge School, Etqan Global Academy, German International School Doha, and The Hamilton International School. Several others publish a pass rate, top score, or cohort statement without a headline average: DBS Ain Khaled, ACS Doha, Arab International Academy, ISL Qatar, Swiss International School Qatar.

The absence is not automatically a red flag. Newer programmes produce small cohorts: ACS Doha graduated its first DP cohort in 2024; Arab International Academy graduated its fifth in 2025. A single average on twelve students reveals more about one student than the school.

Ask each school for the three-year average, cohort size, pass rate, and bilingual diploma count where relevant. Any school running an authorised DP can produce these. A school that cannot has told the parent something.

FAQs

Which Doha school has the highest published IB score?

Doha British School (Wakra) with a 2024 DP average of 38 points. Compass posted 34.4 in 2025 at a 96% pass rate; the American School of Doha published 35 in 2019. DBS Wakra is the only Doha school with a published average above 35.

What is a good IB score in Doha?

The 2024 worldwide average is 30.32, pass rate around 81%. Every Doha school with a recent published average clears it. The city's top end (38) sits in the global top decile; the bottom of the published range (32 at SEK) sits roughly two points above world average.

Why do so few Doha schools publish IB results?

The market is small (around fifteen schools, several with their first DP cohorts in the last three years). Many established schools run the DP alongside another qualification (A Level at Compass and the two DBS campuses; AP at ASD), so the IB headline is not the primary academic claim. Several full-continuum schools (Qatar Academy, ISL, SEK) pitch the pathway rather than the exit number.

Does my child need to do PYP and MYP to score well at DP?

No. Doha's strongest published average (DBS Wakra, 38) comes from a school where students do IGCSE first, not MYP. Compass and ASD also run the DP on top of a non-IB primary and produce strong results. The case for the full continuum is consistency of pedagogy and the bilingual diploma route.

What is a bilingual IB diploma, and which Doha schools offer it?

A bilingual diploma requires the student to complete two languages and at least one humanities or science subject in a second language. Qatar Academy Doha is the city's leading source: 47 bilingual diplomas in the 2022 cohort. ISL Qatar's home-language programme across thirteen languages supports the same route. English-Arabic is the most frequent pairing in Doha.

How do I verify a Doha school's IB authorisation?

The IB Organisation publishes a directory of authorised World Schools at ibo.org. School marketing sometimes describes historical or in-progress authorisations as current; the directory is the definitive list of programmes (PYP, MYP, DP, CP) any school is authorised to run today.
