A growing IB school based in Yokohama rather than Tokyo proper, suited to families in the Kanagawa side of the metro who want inquiry-based learning from age two through middle school.

CGK opened in 2016 with a preschool in Bashamichi and an elementary plus middle school programme in Kannai. The school received PYP authorisation in 2024 and is now in MYP candidacy, with a high school programme planned for 2028. Around 300 students from 40 plus nationalities attend, and the April enrolment cycle aligns with the Japanese school calendar rather than the August intake most international schools in Tokyo run on.

The student journey on offer is still being built out, so families need to think about what happens after grade 8 until the diploma programme arrives. Parents praise the small community feel and the buddy system that helps new arrivals settle. The location works for Yokohama and the southern Tokyo wards, less so for anyone living north or central. Tuition sits well below the established Tokyo names.
