ISA Tianhe International School, Guangzhou

The substantive parent signal is one detailed and damning review on the International Schools Database from January 2026. The parent reported that within a year their child's teacher publicly humiliated them in front of a canteen full of children and staff for something they had not done, and that the headteacher made thinly veiled threats with a police record for an eight-year-old when the family raised it. The family escalated to the Bureau of Education and the school later issued a written apology and refund.
The same review describes facility and hygiene problems: limited outdoor and sheltered space, classrooms with little natural light, poor-condition toilets with faulty lighting and leaking handbasins, and a cockroach in a canteen open to the kitchen.
Group-level Reddit signal is mixed but reads as caution. One international teacher recommended sticking with ISA Science City over another ISA Guangzhou campus described as still in startup phase. Tianhe is the older sister campus rather than the startup, but the same network management is the common thread.
Counter-signal sits on the school's own publishing and award circuit. Tianhe was named on the Hurun Top 20 international schools in China in 2021 and won a 2025 Leading Brand in International Education award. These are not independent assessments.
Volume is the weakness. Outside the one detailed ISDB review, public parent commentary is very thin and the negatives carry the weight of a single family's experience.
