The first and most established British international school in Guangzhou, founded in 2005 and acquired by Nord Anglia Education in 2013. Two linked sites in Baiyun District, with the Lakefront Early Years building and the larger South Lake main campus running through to A-Level.

English National Curriculum, IGCSE and A-Level. Cognia, CIS and BSO accredited. Around 50 nationalities on roll. Maurice Nguyen leads. Reputation among expat families is consistently second only to AISG, with families talking about strong subject teaching, broad music, sport and drama, and a settled community feel.

The Nord Anglia operating model is the practical lever for transferring families: continuity of curriculum and access to the wider network is something parents who have moved between Nord Anglia schools say has actually mattered. Fees sit at the higher end of Guangzhou. Best fit for British-curriculum families committed to the Baiyun side of the city, where the bus run from Tianhe and central neighbourhoods is manageable but not short.

  • Independent parent reviews on the International Schools Database describe BSG as a settled Nord Anglia school where most pupils are thriving but a minority report serious concerns about consistency and behaviour management.
  • Four of five ISD parent reviews are five-star or four-star, citing teaching quality, curriculum structure, after-school activities, specialist music and drama staff, and Mandarin-language progress; one wrote 'the level of care shown by the adults in my daughter's class is exceptional' and another that 'we found BSG to be a great fit.'
  • The dissenting parent review states 'the school advertises itself as exceptional teaching; that isn't the case,' citing inconsistent teaching, weak classroom management and what the parent calls inadequate administrative response to behavioural and safety concerns.
  • Reddit signal is thin. One Shanghai-based commenter mentioned looking at BSG fees and 'just laughed at the prices' before relocating to the UK, illustrating the price point rather than quality.
  • A separate Reddit poster framed the parent body as primarily wealthy Chinese families with foreign passports rather than expats; this is reputation-shaping rather than evidence of pupil experience.
