In brief
A small, AMI-tradition Montessori school in Hang Dong with a strong following among families committed to the method. Best fit for parents who want the real Montessori thing through age 12, not a hybrid.
Founded in 2010 and now WASC-accredited. The campus sits on nine rai south of Chiang Mai with bright classrooms, an organic kitchen garden, a nature learning centre, and a full football field. Mixed-age groups run from a toddler community at 18 months through Children's House and Elementary to age 12, with one group per stage.
Families speak warmly of the prepared environment, the trained guides, and the protected three-hour work cycle. About 80 children total, so attention is close. The trade-off is scale. There is no secondary, so families need a plan for age 12 onwards, and the small numbers mean a child who does not click with their group has fewer options to reshuffle.
Head of school
Nathasassi Warittanadejcho (Khru Air)
Khru Air founded Chiang Mai Montessori in 2010 with a clear and enduring vision: to create a school where children are deeply respected, supported in their natural development, and inspired to grow into confident, capable adults prepared for an ever-changing world. Grounded in the principles of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), her approach places the needs of the child at the heart of every decision. Her lifelong commitment to education is guided by the belief that schools should be nurturing environments—not just for academic growth, but for the development of independence, resilience, and joy in learning. This vision continues to shape the direction of CMM today.
