Panyaden International School
Bilingual British-curriculum school founded in 2011, offering IBDP at Year 12-13 alongside values-based education rooted in Buddhist principles and sustainability, from Nursery to Year 13 in Namprae, Hang Dong. 2025-2026 fees run from THB 303,000 (Early Years) to THB 571,000…
In brief
The bilingual Buddhist school. Earth and bamboo buildings, 50-50 English and Thai in primary, and a curriculum built around the 12 Wise Habits drawn from Phra Ajahn Jayasaro.
Founded in 2011 by Yodphet Sudsawad on a campus of bamboo and rammed-earth pavilions among rice fields, about 15 minutes from town. British curriculum and IB Diploma at senior level, Thai national curriculum threaded through, sustainability and Buddhist principles in the daily fabric. Each primary class has both a Thai and an English teacher. Around 350 students, ages 2 to 19.
Families who want the philosophy delivered authentically tend to stay and rave. Parents praise the well-trained teachers, the nurturing atmosphere, and the academic rigour underneath the calm aesthetic. The mixed signal sits at the older end. Some families with older children have raised concerns about how the school handles adolescent behaviour and conflict, and a few have left for that reason. The fit question is real: families who want a conventional, high-pressure academic environment will find Panyaden a different proposition.

Reviews
- Panyaden has the strongest forum footprint of any Chiang Mai international school and the picture is genuinely mixed. r/Internationalteachers consensus places it tier 2 or tier 3 depending on the year, never tier 1.
- Pay is repeatedly described as one of the better packages in Chiang Mai, with one teacher quoting roughly 100,000 baht a month for an MA plus five years' experience and benefits.
- The same threads flag work-life balance and how the school is run as the trade-off, with one commenter calling it "a strong package but not such a great school to work at".
- Parents and directory reviewers praise the bamboo campus, mindfulness ethos and small-class atmosphere in the early years; multiple reviews say the school becomes harder to navigate as children get older, citing leadership turnover, behaviour management gaps and limited parent voice (with one parent stating two headmasters were dismissed within six months).
- The values-led, Buddhist-influenced curriculum draws a self-selecting community; one commenter described the model as prioritising spirituality and experience over academics, which families either choose deliberately or push back on later.
