AIS is a major Inspired-network school in HCMC, running primary in Thao Dien and the through-18 campus at Thu Thiem, with IB Diploma and Cambridge IGCSE side by side and the city's first international boarding option.

Founded in 2006 and now part of the Inspired Education group, AIS takes children from 18 months to 18 years across two campuses. Thao Dien handles kindergarten and primary inside the An Phu Superior Compound. From Year 7 students move to the larger Thu Thiem site, which carries the secondary school and Saigon's first purpose-built international boarding facility. Around 1,250 to 1,500 students from forty-plus nationalities. CIS, IB, and Cambridge accredited.

Parents praise the breadth of facilities at Thu Thiem, the engagement of teachers, and the active parent community that meets the senior leadership regularly. The campus move at the end of primary is a real adjustment for some families. Fees sit at the top tier of the HCMC market alongside BIS and Canadian.

  • Teaching forums place AIS in District 2 among the top non-selective international schools in Ho Chi Minh City. One teacher wrote that the original AIS in District 2 is heard of "overwhelmingly positive" and is generally seen as the top non-academically-selective school in the area.
  • The Australian-style structure and the IGCSE/IB pathway draw the most positive feedback, with parents flagging engaged teachers, modern campuses across the Thao Dien and Thu Thiem sites, and an own sports centre.
  • Saigon expat threads consistently warn against confusing AIS with the separately operated American International School (AISVN) which has documented financial problems. Parents weighing schools should keep the two distinct.
  • Tuition sits in the upper-mid range for HCMC international schools and reviewers tie value to the Australian curriculum and dedicated specialist staff rather than IB outcomes alone.
  • No moderate-volume parent-review pool exists on independent platforms; the strongest signal comes from teaching forums and broker-site testimonials.

Positives

  • Reputation in Ho Chi Minh City. Teaching forums describe AIS District 2 as one of the strongest non-selective international schools in the city
  • Curriculum and outcomes. Australian curriculum, IGCSE and IB pathway with dedicated subject specialists across the campuses
  • Facilities. Reviewers single out modern campuses, swimming pool and an in-house sports centre

Considerations

  • Brand confusion. Recurring need to distinguish AIS Vietnam from the troubled American International School Vietnam (AISVN)
