In Brief

Shrewsbury Phnom Penh is the most premium choice in the city - backed by one of Britain's oldest schools and about to open the largest international school campus in Cambodia. At ~50 students it's very small right now, which is either an advantage or a concern depending on your priorities; families who value pastoral care and small classes will appreciate it, but those wanting a large peer group should wait until the new campus opens in September 2026.

Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh carries the name and ethos of Shrewsbury School UK - one of Britain's historic public schools, founded in 1552. The affiliation is genuine: the school follows the Shrewsbury Floreat ethos, uses GL Assessment benchmarking, and is a COBIS member, with CIS/CISSIA candidacy in progress. The founding principal, Toby Waterson, has built the school from scratch since its opening.

Currently, the school operates from a small campus in Chroy Changvar with around 50 students from Pre-Nursery to Year 10. Average class sizes of six are unusually intimate - a real advantage for younger children but limiting for older students who benefit from a broader peer group. The school currently runs to Year 10 only, with the curriculum extending to Year 12 planned by 2027-28.

The big development is the new 7.2-hectare campus in Sen Sok, scheduled to open in September 2026. This will be the largest international school campus in Cambodia by land area. Fees are the highest in the city at senior level (Year 10 all-in at US$31,000), reflecting the premium positioning and the UK affiliation. No IGCSE or A Level results have been published yet - the school is too new - so accreditation progress and exam results should be the key questions to ask at admissions stage.

What parents value
  • Affiliated with Shrewsbury School UK (founded 1552) - genuine British heritage, COBIS membership, and GL Assessment benchmarking. Founding principal with hands-on leadership in a small community.
  • New 7.2-hectare Sen Sok campus opening September 2026 will be the largest international school campus in Cambodia. Very small classes (average 6) give exceptional pastoral attention in Early Years and Primary.
Points of consideration
  • Currently only 50 students and running to Year 10. No IGCSE or A Level results published yet. CIS accreditation is at candidacy stage, not yet awarded. Families with older children should wait for the new campus and fuller year groups.
  • Fees are the highest in Phnom Penh at senior level. Year 1-6 all-in at US$26,500 and Year 10 at US$31,000 for 2025-26, before the one-time registration fee of US$2,500. Confirm the 2026-27 fee schedule once the new campus is confirmed open.
