ABWA is the South Mumbai flagship of the Aditya Birla Education Trust, founded in 2008 in Tardeo and chaired by Neerja Birla. Around 800 students from age 2 to 18, running ICSE through Year 10 alongside IGCSE, then IB Diploma in the senior years.

The school sits in Gamadia Colony off JD Road, drawing from the Tardeo, Malabar Hill, Worli and Lower Parel belt. Fees run roughly INR 8 lakh in the early years up to INR 18 lakh in the Diploma. ABWA has topped Hindustan Times surveys of South Mumbai international schools for several years, and the IB cohort is small enough that teachers know each child.

Parents talk about a child-centred culture, a counselling team focused on emotional wellbeing, and strong individual attention through the Diploma. The recurring grumbles are teacher turnover and a parent body that is among the most affluent in South Mumbai. Best fit for South Mumbai families wanting an Indian-board foundation with a credible IB Diploma exit, comfortable inside that South Bombay environment.

  • Established Mumbai international school under the Aditya Birla group, offering IB Diploma alongside IGCSE and A-Levels. Ranked #2 among India's international day schools in EW India School Rankings 2020-21, and named a top international school in HT and Times of India city rankings between 2014 and 2016.
  • Parents describe a nurturing all-round environment, with one saying their daughter had "grown emotionally and become more confident academically" and picked up a wide range of skills. Counselling support runs through a team that includes a child psychiatrist and clinical psychologists.
  • Mumbai parents place ABWA among the city's elite international schools alongside Cathedral and John Connon and Dhirubhai Ambani International School. Aggregate scores across Indian school trackers are consistently high across hundreds of entries.
  • Teacher movement is a recurring parent concern, with frequent changes flagged across multiple accounts.
  • Fees and demographic intake place ABWA firmly at the top of the Mumbai market, which one parent framed as "good education" but "for the wealthy." Value for money is the open question against South Mumbai peers.
