ASB is the default American option in Mumbai, founded in 1981 by US expatriate parents and now around 1,200 to 1,300 students from over 50 nationalities. Two campuses: Elementary in Kurla (West) at Kohinoor City and Secondary in BKC at G Block.

The programme combines a US framework with the IB Diploma in the senior years, with rolling admissions for diplomatic and corporate moves. Tuition runs INR 17 to 31 lakh by grade, plus a one-off capital levy. The community is roughly a quarter US passport holders, 10 to 15 percent Indian, the rest third-country nationals.

Families describe ASB as one of the best-run schools they have used, with strong teachers, deep extracurriculars from robotics to swimming to Model UN, and intersession programmes during breaks. Parents arriving on relocations praise the welcome. The recurring caveats are that the Kurla elementary campus sits in some of Mumbai's worst traffic, and the pace is high enough that Indian families often add tutoring. Best fit for diplomatic and corporate expat families wanting a US path with an IB Diploma exit.

  • ASB carries a strong reputation among Mumbai expat families. State Department real-post reports praise teachers, technology integration, robotics, drama, sports, MUN and on-campus extracurriculars at no extra cost.
  • One returning parent described it as the most child-centred, learning-focused school environment they had encountered, and said many families extend their Mumbai stays because of the school.
  • The expectation level is high. Some Western parents the academic pace runs ahead of what their children were used to, and that local Indian peers often have private tutors in each subject.
  • Teachers consistently rank ASB as the best-paying international school in Mumbai. One recent posting flagged it as openly recruiting early-career teachers, which a regular observer thought was unusual for a school of its tier.
  • forum threads on Mumbai schools place ASB among the city's elite international options, with the caveat that it serves a globally mobile and high-income community.
