In Brief

GESM is the default choice for German-speaking families in Manila, and one of the few schools where you can choose between the German Abitur, IB Diploma, and IGCSE under one roof. If your child's schooling has been in a German or European framework, or you're German-speaking and want continuity, it's almost certainly the right school.

GESM is one of the most established international schools in the Philippines, running since the 1960s on its Better Living campus in Paranaque. The school is genuinely multilingual: the German Section leads to the Abitur, the English-European Section runs IB Primary Years, IGCSE, and IB Diploma, and there's a Eurocampus strand for Franco-German families. Around 700 students from across Europe, Asia, and the Americas attend, with no single cohort dominating. The GESM model is rare in Metro Manila - a school where a German-educated child arriving mid-cycle can slot straight into a curriculum they recognise, without switching to IB or American pathways.

Day-to-day, GESM runs as a day school on a campus with pools, sports fields, science labs, and music and art facilities that match what you'd expect from a well-resourced European school. The school has operated continuously through several decades and multiple diplomatic cycles, which means the infrastructure and institutional knowledge are genuinely solid. The multilingual student body - German, English, French as core languages - produces a social environment that families from non-English-dominant European backgrounds find easier to land in than British or American-curriculum schools.

The fee structure has two components: a PHP tuition element and a smaller EUR-denominated association fee (around PHP 10K annually), paid at the school's exchange rate. New students pay a PHP 130K entrance fee and a PHP 130K refundable deposit. Grade 11-12 fees sit at PHP 1.14M annually - lower than NAIS and ISM at senior level, which makes GESM relatively good value for a full Abitur or IB Diploma programme. One area to check: published inspection and accreditation documentation is older than for some comparable schools, so ask the school directly about current external review status.

What parents value
  • One of very few schools in Metro Manila offering both the German Abitur and IB Diploma - essential for families who need curriculum continuity from a German or European school system. Established since the 1960s with strong institutional stability.
  • Multilingual environment (German, English, French) that suits European families more broadly, not just German-speakers. Campus facilities include pools, sports fields, labs, and arts spaces on a full-size Paranaque site.
  • Fees are competitive at senior level (PHP 1.14M for Grade 11-12) compared with other established international schools in Manila offering IB Diploma. The Paranaque location is practical for families in the south and Bay Area.
Points of consideration
  • The German and IB curriculum tracks serve different families well, but if you arrive without a clear preference between Abitur and IB Diploma, ask the school how the two pathways interact and what university destination data looks like for each.
  • The EUR association fee means a small portion of your annual cost moves with the EUR/PHP rate. It's not a large sum, but worth understanding before you budget.
  • GESM's reputation is strongest among German-speaking and European families. If your family is English-speaking from a North American or British background, compare the cultural fit with ISM or BSM before deciding - the school works well, but the social centre of gravity is distinctly European.
