AIC is the only school in Guangzhou where Chinese nationals can sit the IB Diploma alongside international students, which makes it genuinely distinctive. Alcanta International College has a specific and unusual position in Guangzhou's school market. As the only IB school in the city authorised to enrol both Chinese and international students for the full IGCSE and IB Diploma programme, it attracts a mixed community that most international schools in China cannot offer. Around 20% of its approximately 300 students are international. The school has operated since 2011 and has produced 12 graduating classes, with university destinations including Cambridge, UCL, LSE, Johns Hopkins, NUS, HKU, Waseda, and ANU.

The school's focus is purely on Grades 7 to 12 - there is no primary or early years. That concentration means resources and teaching attention are all directed at secondary and pre-university preparation. Boarding is available in both five-day and seven-day formats, which works well for Chinese families who want weekday boarding but prefer to take children home at weekends. The Nansha campus has football, basketball, tennis, a gym, yoga room, library, theatre, and science labs built to the school's specification.

Nansha is the furthest district from central Guangzhou - roughly 40 to 60 minutes from Tianhe and further from Baiyun or Zengcheng. The school is not aimed at day-student families commuting from Tianhe or Haizhu; the boarding model is central to how it operates. With only around 300 students, the community is smaller than most schools in this guide - ask at the admissions visit about current class sizes and how many students are in each year group, as cohort size can vary.
