In Brief
SISB is the only Singapore-curriculum school in Chiang Mai and the right choice if you are coming from a Singapore schooling background or want trilingual English-Chinese-Thai immersion from early years. The city-centre location on Hussadhisawee Road is a genuine advantage for families based in the Nimman or Old City area.
Opened in 2017, SISB operates out of a city-centre building on Hussadhisawee Road in the Sripoom district - about five minutes from Nimman and ten from the Old City - which makes it the most centrally located international school in Chiang Mai for families based in the urban core. Principal Daniel Maxwell has led the school since it opened. At around 450 students, it is small enough that families describe a family atmosphere where teachers have real relationships with individual children.
The curriculum runs Singapore frameworks in primary and transitions to Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels at secondary, with trilingual delivery in English, Chinese and Thai throughout. That combination is unusual in northern Thailand and attracts Chinese-speaking families, families with mainland Chinese backgrounds, and internationally mobile families who have previously lived in Singapore or Hong Kong. The school publishes its programme as preparing students for both Asian and Western university applications.
The one-time enrolment fee is THB 150,000 - one of the highest in Chiang Mai - which makes the first-year total cost meaningfully higher than the annual tuition figure. Independent review data on academic outcomes is limited given the school's short track record; ask for IGCSE and A-Level results from the past two cohorts at your admissions meeting.
What parents value
- –The only Singapore-curriculum school in Chiang Mai, with trilingual English-Chinese-Thai delivery from Nursery through Year 13. Families coming from Singapore, Hong Kong or Chinese-speaking backgrounds will find the most familiar academic framework here.
- –City-centre location on Hussadhisawee Road reduces commute times significantly for families in Nimman, the Old City or nearby neighbourhoods. No long Hang Dong or Mae Rim run each morning.
- –Small school size (~450 students) with a principal who has been in post since opening. Families report a community feel and teaching staff who know their children individually - a contrast to the larger schools further out of town.
Points of consideration
- –One-time enrolment fee is THB 150,000 (non-refundable), plus a THB 30,000 refundable security deposit. First-year total outlay adds up to THB 190,000 in one-time costs before the first term of tuition - confirm current figures with admissions before budgeting.
- –The school opened in 2017, which means senior cohorts are small and the track record for IGCSE and A-Level results is still building. Ask for published results from the most recent two years before comparing against Lanna or CMIS for the senior pathway.
- –The Singapore curriculum framework differs meaningfully from British or American systems. If your child is joining mid-secondary from a different curriculum, ask the school how they manage the transition - particularly for IGCSE entry in Years 9-10.
