# Things to Do with Kids in Doha
Family life in Doha runs on two calendars. November to March the city is one of the best places in the Gulf to have children outside: Corniche, parks, desert, beach. May to September the temperature clears 40°C and the week moves into malls built as climate-controlled day-trip destinations.
Outdoor Doha: the Corniche, parks and the cool-season window
The seven-kilometre Corniche from MIA to West Bay is the most useful outdoor space in the city. Scooters, bikes and prams on the paved path; the West Bay skyline across the bay is the postcard. Free, lit, busy from sunset.
Aspire Park in Aspire Zone is the largest park in Qatar at 88 hectares: lake, mature trees, children's play area, the Torch Doha as landmark. Open 24 hours, free. In winter it fills after 4pm and stays busy until late.
MIA Park wraps the Museum of Islamic Art on a peninsula off the Corniche: lawn, bay views, a small playground, the Park Café. The Park at the National Museum of Qatar sits inside Jean Nouvel's Desert Rose footprint with the Nakilat Adventure Ship playground, a cave play space and water features. Both free; designed as part of the museum, not bolted on.
Oxygen Park inside Qatar Foundation's Education City is a contoured running park with a covered jogging track that stays usable in summer; the adjacent Hatim Sports Centre runs public-access swimming, tennis and squash by session.
Katara Cultural Village between West Bay and The Pearl carries an amphitheatre, beach, mosques, galleries and a strip of restaurants. Free; beach hut hire QAR 250 a day (USD 70). The Pearl-Qatar promenade at Porto Arabia is the closest the city gets to walkable family streets. Lusail Boulevard runs the same formula one suburb north with a winter market and seasonal light installations.
Indoor Doha: the summer essential
May through September the outdoor plan dies after 9am. The mall ecosystem absorbs the family week.
Villaggio Mall in Aspire Zone is built around an indoor canal with gondola rides and a Venice ceiling. Gondolania, the 36,000-square-metre indoor theme park inside, runs an ice rink, bowling, 4D cinema, roller coaster, dodgems and a Cars-themed kids' zone. Wristbands QAR 175 to 250 (USD 48 to 70) per child; skating QAR 50 to 80 (USD 14 to 22).
Doha Festival City in the north is the other anchor. Inside one footprint: Angry Birds World (QAR 150 to 200, USD 40 to 55), VIRTUOCITY (esports and VR), Snow Dunes (indoor snow park with sledging, kit included; QAR 130 to 180, USD 35 to 50 for 90 minutes), plus IKEA, Monoprix and IMAX.
KidZania Doha at Aspire's Hyatt Plaza is a role-play city for ages 4 to 14: real-world professions in miniature, paid in KidZos. Adults QAR 90 to 110, children QAR 130 to 180 (USD 25 to 50).
Mall of Qatar in the west carries an IMAX, a Lego store and the country's largest cinema plus a fountain show. Doha Quest at Doha Oasis in Msheireb is the newer indoor theme park with one of the world's tallest indoor roller coasters; tickets from QAR 150 (USD 40).
The Qatar National Library at Education City carries one of the best children's libraries in the Gulf: dedicated section, weekend story sessions, family programming and a sensory room for additional needs. Free with a residency card.

Discovery and learning: museums, art and Islamic culture
The Museum of Islamic Art, the I. M. Pei building on the Corniche, holds one of the world's strongest Islamic art collections. Children's trails, Saturday family workshops and MIA Park next door make it a half-day. QAR 50 adults (USD 14), free for under-16s and residents one day a week.
The National Museum of Qatar walks visitors through Qatar's natural and social history. Interactive halls suit children from around six up; the park outside suits younger ones. QAR 50 (USD 14) non-residents, free for residents on the published day.
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Education City and the Fire Station: Artist in Residence in central Doha run family programmes and weekend workshops. Free entry. Fire Station is the better bet for older children interested in studio work.
Souq Waqif functions as a culture stop for visiting families: spice alleys, textile lanes, the live-animal market, and the Falcon Souq where Qatari falconers shop for hoods, perches and birds. Free. Family meal QAR 200 to 400 (USD 55 to 110); the falcon hospital tour is free by appointment.
Beaches, water and the sea
The Gulf is warm and shallow half the year. November to March beach days work without sunshade engineering; May to September the water is bath-warm and the beach is a 6am or 5pm proposition only.
Aqua Park Qatar in Doha South is the main outdoor water park: slides, wave pool, children's zone. Day passes QAR 150 to 250 adults (USD 40 to 70), children QAR 100 to 175 (USD 27 to 48). Summer evening sessions run.
Hotel beach clubs at the InterContinental, Four Seasons, St Regis Pearl and Banyan Tree Mushaireb run day passes at QAR 200 to 500 per adult (USD 55 to 135), half-price for children. Family memberships QAR 8,000 to 25,000 a year. Sealine Beach Resort an hour south runs day passes for non-residents at QAR 200 to 300 per adult (USD 55 to 80).
