School-by-School Notes

JIS (Jakarta Intercultural School). The biggest draw for families living in Pondok Indah. JIS is Jakarta's largest and most established international school. The campus sits on the border of Pondok Indah and Cilandak, the Elementary entrance is on the Pondok Indah side, the Middle/High entrance on the Cilandak side, but it is one continuous site. Elementary serves Pre-K through Grade 5; Middle and High School serve Grades 6–12. JIS runs an American-style programme with IB Diploma and AP options in senior school. Fees are at the top of the market.

ISJ (The Independent School of Jakarta). ISJ is in the Pondok Indah area, one of the shortest school runs in this table. It follows the English National Curriculum with a British independent school ethos: small classes, staff who know every child by name, and a strong extracurricular programme. ISJ currently runs Pre-Nursery onwards with secondary year groups rolling out year by year, and a dedicated senior campus opens in 2028 taking pupils through to A-Levels. Fees are comparable to JIS at primary level.

Lycée Français de Jakarta. The French international school, located in Cipete. A natural choice for French-speaking families and those wanting a bilingual French-English education. The commute from Pondok Indah is 10–15 minutes, shorter than from Kemang.

AIS Jakarta. The Australian school, based in Pejaten adjacent to Kemang. AIS runs the Australian curriculum through primary and IB Diploma for senior school. Known for strong learning support and an inclusive, community-driven ethos. From Pondok Indah the drive is 15–20 minutes via Jalan Pejaten Raya, longer at peak times.

NAS Jakarta (Nord Anglia School). Located on Kemang Selatan, NAS offers a British-style primary education as part of the Nord Anglia global network. Currently Early Years to Year 7, expanding. A mid-tier option on fees ($6,900–$20,900). The commute from Pondok Indah is 15–20 minutes.

SPH Kemang Village. Sekolah Pelita Harapan's Kemang campus sits inside the Kemang Village development. It runs Cambridge through to IGCSE and IB Diploma. A Christian-ethos school with modern facilities in a high-rise campus setting. Similar commute to NAS, 15–20 minutes from Pondok Indah.

ACG School Jakarta. ACG runs IB PYP in primary, Cambridge and British Key Stage 3 in middle school, IGCSE, and IB Diploma. Fees sit in the mid-tier. The campus is in South Jakarta, 15–20 minutes from Pondok Indah.

How to Use This Table

Start with the school your children will attend, or the two or three you are considering, and work backwards to housing.

If your children are at JIS, Pondok Indah is the natural home. The campus is in the neighbourhood, all year groups, one site.

If your children are at ISJ, Pondok Indah is one of the best options, the school is a 5–10 minute drive. Cipete and Cilandak also work.

If your children are at AIS, Pondok Indah is fine, 15–20 minutes. Kemang is closer (5–10 minutes) and may suit AIS families better.

FAQs

Can I live in Pondok Indah and send my children to a school in Kemang? Yes. AIS in Pejaten, NAS on Kemang Selatan, and SPH Kemang Village are all 15–20 minutes from Pondok Indah in normal traffic. At school-run times, allow 20–30 minutes. The route via Jalan Pejaten Raya or Jalan Pangeran Antasari avoids the worst of Kemang's main-road traffic.

Does JIS have one campus or two? One continuous site on the border of Pondok Indah and Cilandak. The Elementary entrance is on the Pondok Indah side; the Middle/High entrance is on the Cilandak side. Your children stay on the same piece of land from Pre-K through Grade 12.

How do drive times change at peak hours? Expect school-run traffic to add 10–20 minutes to every commute in this table, particularly between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. The worst bottleneck is Jalan Kemang Raya (heading east towards Kemang-area schools). Pondok Indah's internal roads are relatively clear; the delays start when you leave the neighbourhood.

Drive times are estimates based on normal daytime traffic from central Pondok Indah. Actual times vary by exact address, time of day, and traffic conditions. Fee ranges are annual totals in USD. Exchange rate: IDR 16,826 = $1 USD.
