SPH operates multiple campuses including Lippo Village, Pluit, and Sentul, serving both Indonesian and expatriate families seeking faith-based international education. The school follows the complete IB pathway from Primary Years Programme through Diploma Programme, with English as the primary language of instruction. Teacher discussions reveal SPH as the top Christian school in Indonesia, attracting families who value the integration of Protestant Christian values with rigorous academics. The school maintains selective hiring practices requiring strong Christian faith commitment, particularly favoring Reformed Protestant backgrounds.

Academic outcomes appear solid with graduates progressing to universities in Australia and the UK, though specific placement statistics remain limited. The school's connection to Universitas Pelita Harapan provides additional pathways for students. However, recent teacher feedback suggests concerning trends including heavy workloads, multiple teaching preparations, extensive unpaid responsibilities, and reduced professional development budgets. Despite competitive salaries and benefits including free tuition for teacher children, some educators report burnout from the demanding schedule and profit-driven management approach typical of schools owned by large conglomerates.

Strengths

  • Strong academic reputation as Indonesia's leading Christian international school
  • Complete IB pathway from PYP through Diploma Programme
  • Multiple campus locations across greater Jakarta area
  • Excellent teacher benefits including free tuition for staff children
  • Strong Christian community and values integration
  • Graduates gain admission to top universities in Australia and UK
  • Backed by established Lippo Group with substantial resources
  • Small class sizes enabling personalized attention
  • Modern facilities including swimming pools, auditoriums, and specialized labs

Considerations

  • Requires strong Protestant Christian faith commitment from families and staff
  • Teacher reports of excessive workload and unpaid responsibilities
  • Recent cuts to professional development budgets
  • Operates as for-profit school within large conglomerate structure
  • Some campuses located outside central Jakarta requiring longer commutes
  • Limited diversity with predominantly Christian Indonesian and expatriate families
  • High fees typical of premium international schools in Jakarta
  • Teacher turnover concerns due to demanding work environment

  • Indonesian families and expats place SPH alongside JIS and BSJ in the top tier of Jakarta options, with the elite-demographic that comes with that.
  • Christian identity is core. Teachers sign a statement of faith and the Christian framing runs through daily school life. One commenter on a teaching forum said the Christian package is what makes SPH attractive, and pointed non-Christian applicants toward Beacon Academy instead.
  • The teaching pool draws expats from the US, Australia, Canada and elsewhere, with US passport holders historically on the highest pay band. Several teachers describe SPH as a strong professional environment with a coherent curriculum and supportive admin.
  • Operated by the Lippo group through Yayasan Pendidikan Pelita Harapan. Parents and former students reference the wealthy family base and the Lippo ecosystem (Lippo Village, Siloam, Matahari) as part of the school's identity.
  • Alumni who attended in the 2000s and 2010s look back on it as a high-quality but bubbled environment, more like a US private school than a Jakarta state one.

Head of school

Helen Schleper
