School-by-School Notes

AIS Jakarta. The closest top-tier school to Kemang. AIS sits in Pejaten, adjacent to the Kemang area, and most Kemang addresses are 10–15 minutes away. AIS runs the Australian curriculum through primary and offers the IB Diploma in senior school. It has one of the strongest learning support programmes in Jakarta and a reputation for being warm and inclusive. Fees range from $6,000 (Preschool 3, three days) to $26,300 (Years 11–12).

NZ School Jakarta. At the top of Kemang, closest to the CBD. A small, community-driven school following the New Zealand Curriculum. It serves ages 1–15 with more modest facilities than the larger schools, but families who want a close-knit, personal environment find it appealing. Fees are lower than the top tier, contact the school directly for current figures.

SPH Kemang Village. Sekolah Pelita Harapan's urban campus inside the Kemang Village development. SPH runs Cambridge through to IGCSE and IB Diploma, with a Christian ethos. The campus is modern, built into a high-rise complex. From many Kemang addresses it is walkable.

NAS Jakarta (Nord Anglia School). At the bottom of Kemang, on Kemang Selatan, the furthest point from the CBD within the Kemang area. NAS offers British-style primary education as part of the Nord Anglia global network. Currently Early Years to Year 7, with expansion planned. Fees are mid-tier ($6,900–$20,900).

Lycée Français de Jakarta. The French international school in Cipete, 15 minutes from Kemang. French-speaking families in Kemang typically choose this, the commute is short and avoids the worst of Kemang's main-road traffic by using the Pangeran Antasari flyover.

JIS (Jakarta Intercultural School). JIS sits on the border of Pondok Indah and Cilandak, one continuous campus with separate entrances for Elementary and Middle/High. From Kemang the drive is 15–20 minutes via Jalan Pejaten Raya, a straightforward route that avoids Jalan Kemang Raya. Many JIS families live in Kemang for the lifestyle and accept the short commute. JIS runs an American-style programme with IB Diploma and AP options. Fees are at the top of the market.

ACG School Jakarta. ACG runs IB PYP, Cambridge middle school, IGCSE, and IB Diploma. A mid-tier school on fees ($9,400–$22,300). The campus is in South Jakarta, 15–20 minutes from central Kemang.

ISJ (The Independent School of Jakarta). ISJ in Pondok Indah is about 20 minutes from Kemang via back roads through Cilandak. It follows the English National Curriculum with a British independent school character, small classes, staff who know every child, strong extracurriculars. Currently Pre-Nursery onwards with secondary year groups rolling out year by year, and a dedicated senior campus opening in 2028 taking pupils through to A-Levels. Several ISJ families live in Kemang and find the commute comfortable.

How to Use This Table

If your children attend AIS, Kemang is the obvious base. The school is in the neighbourhood. No other area puts you closer.

If your children attend JIS, Kemang works well. The campus is 15–20 minutes via Jalan Pejaten Raya. Pondok Indah is slightly closer, but Kemang offers a different lifestyle.

If your children attend ISJ, Kemang is a reasonable option, about 20 minutes via back roads. Pondok Indah is closer (5–10 minutes), but Kemang is viable if you prefer the area.

If your children attend NAS, NZ School or SPH Kemang Village, Kemang is where you should be. All three are in the neighbourhood.

FAQs

Is Kemang walkable to any international schools? SPH Kemang Village and NZ School Jakarta are within walking distance from some Kemang addresses. AIS in Pejaten is a short drive but not walkable for most, the route involves main roads. NAS on Kemang Selatan is walkable from southern Kemang.

Does Kemang traffic affect the school commute? Yes. Jalan Kemang Raya is a single carriageway that gets heavily congested at school-run times (7:00–8:00 a.m.) and Friday prayer times. The key is to avoid it: use Jalan Pejaten Raya for JIS, the Pangeran Antasari flyover for Cipete and points west, and back roads through Cilandak for ISJ. Families who know the alternative routes find the commutes manageable. Families who rely on Kemang Raya for everything do not.

Can I live in Kemang and send my children to ISJ? Yes. ISJ in Pondok Indah is roughly 20 minutes from Kemang via back roads through Cilandak. Several ISJ families live in Kemang and report a comfortable school run.
