Muscat International School By Amity
British curriculum school established in Muscat in 1989 and now operating as part of the global Amity Education Group, on a new 30,000 sqm campus in Qurum opposite the Natural Park. Serves students from 54 nationalities from Foundation Stage 1…
In brief
One of Muscat's longest-established British-curriculum schools, founded in 1989 in Qurum and now operated under the Amity Education brand, taking children from KG to Year 13.
MIS pioneered IGCSE and A Level in Oman and still trades on that history. The curriculum is the English national curriculum with the standard Omani Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies overlay, and the school is licensed by the Ministry of Education. Fees of roughly OMR 3,680 to 7,500 place it in the affordable tier rather than competing with British School Muscat.
The Amity rebrand is recent and the central Qurum location is a genuine practical advantage for families living in older Muscat neighbourhoods. Parents talk warmly about the supportive atmosphere and the breadth of nationalities the school attracts. The trade-off is the older campus footprint, which cannot match the newer purpose-built schools on facilities. Families pick MIS for the British pathway, the location, and the price, not for the campus.

Reviews
- Parents and ex-students treat MIS as the affordable end of Muscat's premium-school bracket. Reddit comments place it below TAISM and the British School Muscat on price and offer the IGCSE and A level pathway as the draw.
- One commenter called the school "reasonable" and noted it offers AP and IB programmes; an Edarabia parent praised the IGCSE programme and described staff as dedicated and approachable.
- Negative signal sits with specific departments. One Reddit comment said physics teachers were poor, and a former student described the school under its earlier Muscat Private School identity as a negative experience while still speaking warmly of Oman.
- The school markets its Amity Education Group merger as a quality lift. Parent feedback online doesn't yet engage with the rebrand in detail.
