The largest British school in Kuwait, with origins in The Sunshine School kindergarten founded by Vera and Sadiq Al-Mutawa in 1978. Reopened as BSK at the current Salwa campus in September 1993 and operated by Nord Anglia Education since 2017.

Around 3,000 students from over 75 nationalities, Reception through Year 13, full British curriculum to IGCSE and A Level. CIS and COBIS accredited. Fees run roughly KWD 2,800 to KWD 5,200. Head is Emma Bowie.

Salwa is a quiet residential district south of the city, and BSK is the British school families pick when they want size, facilities, and a known operator behind the school. Many parents speak warmly of the leadership and the breadth of activities, and the academic record is solid by Kuwait standards. The recurring criticism is that as the school has grown, communication and responsiveness have weakened, and some parents feel the place is run more commercially than it once was. Best fit for families wanting a large, well-resourced British school with the Nord Anglia network.

  • Consistently named among the top three British schools in Kuwait, with New English School (NES) and the The English School (TES) often beside it. One teacher said "BSK is the only school a real factor for Kuwait". Salaries and student profile are described as a step above the rest of the city.
  • Local context matters. Multiple Kuwait-side commenters even the strongest "British" schools deliver an adapted UK curriculum rather than a like-for-like UK experience, and that traffic at drop-off and pick-up around Salwa is heavy.
  • Pastoral care and a structured environment come up in parent-style threads, especially in the context of shy or younger children.
  • BSK is now Nord Anglia-operated. Threads from 2024 onwards explicitly ask whether the school has "deteriorated since Nord Anglia took over". A clear answer hasn't surfaced; the question is recurring.
  • Teacher-side mentions are mixed. Some recommend it as the best Kuwait posting; others say they have heard it's "not a great school" without specifics. ECTs see it as one of the few Kuwait schools that actively recruits early-career teachers.
  • Alumni who went on to UK and US universities tend to speak warmly of it.
