The first Asian outpost of Uppingham, the 440-year-old Rutland boarding school, opening for the 2026-27 academic year on a 4.7 hectare site in Ecopark, Hung Yen. K-12 co-educational with iGCSE and A Levels.

Uppingham Vietnam is a partnership between Uppingham School UK, Viet Capital Education, Ecopark, and 20in20 Partners. The campus is being built to take around 2,000 pupils at full capacity, with a sports complex, performing arts centre, science labs, and a library. Founding head is Kirsty Lowery. Curriculum is the Oxford AQA route to A Level, aimed at access to top UK and global universities.

No real parent voice yet, since the school has not opened. The Uppingham UK link is the obvious draw, particularly for families thinking ahead to UK boarding at the parent school. The location in Hung Yen, on the Hanoi side of the new Ecopark township, is a meaningful commute from central Hanoi and is the right fit for families already living in Ecopark or willing to relocate. Worth tracking through the founding cohort before judging delivery.

Head of school

Kirsty J Lowery

As founding Headmistress of Uppingham Hung Yen, Kirsty J Lowery envisions the school to be a warm, inclusive and aspirational community. She is leading the integration of the school's 450-year heritage of holistic education from Uppingham School UK (founded 1584) with Vietnam's cultural context as the institution prepares to open in August 2026 in Hung Yen province.
