NIST was Thailand's first full IB World School. Founded in 1992, it is run as a not-for-profit foundation with parent-elected governance, on a compact urban campus on Sukhumvit Soi 15 near Asok station. Around 1,800 pupils aged three to eighteen follow the IB, and the roll is strongly international: roughly seven in ten pupils are non-Thai, with UN and embassy families well represented. Annual fees run from THB 628,200 in the early years to THB 1,094,500 in the final two years.

Parents and teachers count it among Bangkok's three leading international schools. In 2025 the school reports a 37-point Diploma average, a 100 per cent pass rate and 28 per cent of candidates scoring 40 or more. For many families the central location and shorter commute are what put NIST on the shortlist.

One parent who rated NIST the best of the schools their children had attended in three countries still found the lower school better led than the middle and high school, and said the governors discourage any parent body outside the official structure.

NIST is consistently named in r/Bangkok, r/Thailand and r/Internationalteachers as one of three flagship Bangkok internationals alongside ISB and Bangkok Patana; one teacher said "NIST, ISB, Patana. Everything else is a compromise".
