In Brief
If you're after the most academically rigorous American-curriculum school in Taiwan and your child can handle a competitive environment, TAS is the obvious choice. Corporate package or self-funding, the fees are high - but so are the outcomes.
TAS sits at the top of Taipei's international school hierarchy by reputation, size, and selectivity. The 15-acre Shilin campus is genuinely impressive - 25m pool, three gyms, a dedicated Technology Cube - and academic results back the standing: 96% of AP candidates scored 3 or above in 2024, with 94% of IB students hitting 4 or above. College counselling is strong, particularly for US university placements.
The student body is worth understanding before you apply. A significant proportion are Taiwanese nationals who hold foreign passports - the school is deeply embedded in Taiwan's upper-middle class as well as the international community. The atmosphere is driven and competitive, which families who've been here a few years say suits ambitious kids well but can be pressured for children who need a slower academic pace.
There's no siblings discount, and the one-time NT$350,000 capital fee applies to every new enrolment. The school is less internationally diverse in nationality mix than Taipei European School - if that matters to your family, it's worth factoring in. Admissions for mid-year entry can be tight; apply early if you're relocating.
What parents value
- –Top-tier academic results: AP 96% scored 3+, IB 94% scored 4+. Strong US college counselling and placements.
- –Exceptional campus facilities for an international school - 15 acres, specialist labs, three gyms, 25m pool, and a dedicated Technology Cube.
- –Shilin location is convenient for families in northern Taipei; well-established community and strong alumni network.
Points of consideration
- –High entry costs: NT$350,000 capital fee plus NT$50,000 non-refundable deposit on top of annual tuition above NT$950,000. No sibling discount.
- –The competitive academic culture is a strength for high achievers but can be demanding. Ask about pastoral and learning support if your child has different needs.
- –International diversity is lower than TES - a large share of the student body are Taiwanese passport holders. The school community is cohesive but less globally mixed.

Academic Results
| AP 2024 | 96% scored 3+ |
| IB 2024 | 94% scored 4+ |
Academic results at TAS are among the strongest of any international school in Asia. In 2024, 96% of AP candidates scored 3 or above and 94% of IB Diploma students scored 4 or above - both figures well above global averages.
The school runs both the AP and IB Diploma pathways from Grade 11. College counselling for US universities is a particular strength, with placements to selective American universities common.
Extra Curriculars
Facilities: 25m swimming pool · Three gymnasiums · Technology Cube · Performing arts centre · Multiple sports fields
The Shilin campus covers 15 acres and includes facilities most schools outside the region can't match. Sport, arts, and technology programmes are well-funded, and co-curricular activity is a significant part of school life from middle school onwards.
Ask about ACAMIS league sport participation if athletics matters to your child - TAS competes across East Asia in multiple sports, which can mean meaningful travel commitments for student-athletes.

Student Body
With around 2,371 students, TAS is Taiwan's largest international school. The population is a blend of international families on corporate packages, long-term residents, and a significant cohort of Taiwanese families holding foreign passports - the school's mix is different from what you'd find in a school serving primarily transient international families.
The school runs PreK through Grade 12 on one campus. Class sizes average 15-19 in most years with a maximum of 25 in middle school.
