In Brief
SIA is the affordable mid-range British school in Sharjah with genuine BSO accreditation and a Duke of Edinburgh programme - a decent alternative to SES if you can't get in there, at roughly half the secondary fees. The SPEA Good rating is honest about where it sits; it's a solid school, not a top-tier one.
At AED 24,850 for FS1 rising to AED 37,035 for Year 13, SIA is the most accessible British-curriculum school in Sharjah with full IGCSE and A-Level provision. For comparison, SES charges AED 72,765 at Year 13. BSO accreditation - which only two schools in Sharjah hold - gives university recognition that matters for UK applications. The seven-acre Muwaileh campus is well-resourced for a school of around 700 students.
The Scholars International Group brings 45 years of institutional knowledge behind the brand, and the majority of teaching staff are UK-trained with QTS. Classes split by gender from Year 5 to Year 9, which some families find reassuring and others find restrictive - worth checking before applying. The Duke of Edinburgh International Award is a differentiator at this price point, as are A-Level and IGCSE scholarships of up to 20% for high achievers. Families who've sent children through the school describe teachers as engaged and accessible.
Leadership changed twice in 2024 before Ms Butterworth's appointment became permanent. The SPEA rating is Good, not Very Good - a meaningful gap from SES. Published exam results are sparse: SIA showed 91% A*-C at IGCSE in 2018 and 75% A*-B at A-Level, but more recent cohort-level data is not publicly available. Ask the school directly for current university destination data before committing at sixth form.
What parents value
- –BSO accredited - one of only two schools in Sharjah with this standing. Year 13 fees of AED 37,035 are roughly half the cost of SES at the same level.
- –Duke of Edinburgh International Award; A-Level and IGCSE scholarships of up to 20% for strong students. UK-trained teachers with QTS across the school.
- –Siblings discount of 10% per additional child. Resource fees (textbooks, stationery, field trips to Dubai and Sharjah) are bundled into a transparent resource fee rather than billed separately.
Points of consideration
- –Two leadership changes in 2024 before Ms Butterworth's permanent appointment. Ask about staff retention in your child's key stage at the open day.
- –SPEA Good rating - honest but below the Very Good that SES and AIS hold. Recent cohort-level exam results are not publicly published; ask the school for current A-Level and IGCSE data.
- –Classes split by gender from Year 5 to Year 9 - some families value this, others don't. Confirm the current arrangement directly with the school, as policies can change.
