In Brief

Dulwich is the cleaner, more contained choice for families who want strong IB results in a smaller school with less social complexity than SFS. If you are in Seocho or Gangnam, the location works well; if you are in Seodaemun or Mapo, the commute is a real consideration.

Dulwich Seoul sits in Seocho, which puts it in the middle of Gangnam's expat belt and an easy taxi ride from most of the corporate housing in Banpo and Ikseon. At roughly 700 students aged 3-18, it runs considerably smaller than SFS, and that size difference matters: teachers know students individually, class dynamics are more manageable, and when issues arise the pastoral team is more accessible.

The IB results are the school's clearest marker. A 36.6 average in 2024 - placing Dulwich Seoul 64th globally out of all IB schools - and a 36.5 average in 2025 with 100% pass rate place it among the most consistent performers in Northeast Asia. The 2024 cohort included two students with perfect 45-point scores. The network connection to Dulwich colleges in London and across Asia adds reassurance on curriculum quality and teacher recruitment.

Smaller and more focused comes at the cost of breadth. SFS and Yongsan have bigger campuses and a wider extracurricular range; Dulwich's activities programme is good but not exceptional. Fees are slightly lower than SFS, but the capital levy and placement deposit add meaningfully to the cost of the first year.

What parents value
  • 2024 and 2025 IB averages of 36.6 and 36.5 respectively - among the top IB schools in Korea and globally top-100 ranked. Two perfect 45-point scores in the 2024 cohort.
  • Smaller school size (~700 students) means stronger pastoral care and more visible leadership. Head of College Alison Derbyshire is described by parents as accessible and present in the building.
  • Part of the Dulwich College International network, which supports consistent teacher recruitment and curriculum quality across campuses in London, Beijing, Shanghai, and Singapore.
Points of consideration
  • Campus and extracurricular range are narrower than SFS. If your child is serious about sport or performing arts, visit and compare both schools' programmes before deciding.
  • Seocho location is convenient for Gangnam and Banpo residents but adds commute time for families based in Seodaemun, Mapo, or north of the Han River.
  • Capital levy (KRW 4M) and placement deposit (KRW 3M) are refundable, but tying up KRW 7M at enrollment is worth factoring into first-year cash flow planning.
