Czech-founded school using an American high school model, part of a small network with sister sites in Brno and Zagreb. Suits families who want US-style flexibility and AP without paying ISP-level fees.

American Academy was founded in Prague in 2017 by Ondrej Kania and Tomas Jizdny, with Foxcroft Academy in Maine as academic guarantor. The model is American secondary, with subject choice, AP courses, and a US high school diploma. Elementary years were added in 2020. Recent moves include a new central Prague building.

Class sizes are small and the student body is mixed Czech and international, with over thirty nationalities represented. Parents praise approachable teachers, low turnover, and the personal feel. It is a step down in scale and price from the bigger international names in Prague and reads as a sensible mid-market American option for families who do not need a full IB pathway.

  • One student described American Academy as the best decision of their life, citing high-level academics and study materials even when learning online.
  • Students value subject choice and say they feel heard, with teachers described as nice and knowledgeable.
  • One teacher review credits the teaching staff but calls administration the school's basic problem, citing a lack of direction, structure and honesty.
  • The same teacher review describes the school's atmosphere and administration as terrible, while rating teachers and facilities very good.
  • One parent said their child arrived from another country with a bad school experience and started regaining confidence within days.
  • Class sizes around 17 and small overall enrolment back the individual-attention claims; teacher and student turnover are reported as low for an international school.

Positives

  • Teachers and class size. Small classes and approachable teachers feature consistently in student and parent reviews.
  • Subject choice and student voice. Students value being able to pick their subjects and feel their input is heard.
  • Fit for transferring students. Parent reports a child rebuilding confidence quickly after a difficult prior school.

Considerations

  • Administration. A teacher review flags weak direction and structure from leadership and questions diploma standards.
