A well-accredited IB and Cambridge school worth considering if you're based in or near Augsburg - but if you're in Munich, the 50-60 minute train commute each way is a real daily commitment. Go in with clear eyes on the geography.

ISA is in Gersthofen, a few kilometres north of Augsburg city centre - and that's 50 to 60 minutes from Munich Hauptbahnhof by train. For families actually relocating to Augsburg, or those based along the Munich-Augsburg rail corridor, it's a legitimate option: IBO-authorised, CIS-accredited, Cambridge IGCSE and IB Diploma, around 350 students from 38 nationalities, and a non-profit structure set up at the initiative of the Schwaben Chamber of Industry. The school has produced over 265 graduates since it opened.

The campus is compact and the school is small enough that teachers know every student by name. Families who have been through the programme describe a close-knit community where no one gets lost in the crowd. Fee reductions are available through the school's support programme for families who qualify - worth asking about at admissions. Tuition runs from EUR 15,780 (ELC through Grade 5) to EUR 19,320 (Grades 11-12), with a School Investment Fee of EUR 5,000 or EUR 7,500 on entry depending on year group.

The distance from Munich is the central trade-off. A child commuting daily from central Munich would face over two hours of travel each day - in practice, most Munich families rule ISA out for that reason alone. Sibling discounts of 15% (three children) and 20% (four or more) are available. If your company is posting you to Augsburg rather than Munich, ISA deserves serious consideration; if Munich is your base, verify the logistics are genuinely workable before applying.
