In Brief

The most affordable international-pathway school in Munich, but admission is restricted - check early whether your employer qualifies you for priority entry, and apply well ahead of your move.

ESM is one of only 13 schools in the European Schools system, operating under direct EU government oversight. That background shapes everything: the school runs seven language sections (English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Greek and Italian), every teacher is a native speaker, and the curriculum tracks the European Baccalaureate rather than the IB or A-Levels. Across two Munich campuses - Kindergarten and Primary in Fasangarten, Secondary in Neuperlach - the school covers ages 4 to 18, with students from all 28 EU member states studying together.

Annual fees for 2026/27 run from EUR 4,458 (Kindergarten) to EUR 8,358 (Secondary), which is substantially lower than any comparable international school in the city. A sibling discount structure reduces fees further: the first child is charged full fees, the second at 80%, the third and beyond at 60%. Fee reductions are also available for lower-income families, subject to a minimum of 25% of the standard fee.

The honest trade-off is access. Priority admission goes to employees of EU institutions and the European Patent Office; private families enter as Category III applicants, and spaces are genuinely limited. The European Baccalaureate is well-recognised across EU universities and increasingly understood by UK and US institutions - but if your child may finish schooling in a non-EU system, verify recognition for your specific destinations before enrolling.

What parents value
  • Fees from EUR 4,458 to EUR 8,358 - the most affordable international-pathway option in Munich by a significant margin, with sibling discounts and income-based reductions available.
  • Genuine multilingualism: seven EU language sections, native-speaker teachers, and students from across the EU. Hard to replicate in any other Munich school.
  • European Baccalaureate is accepted at universities across the EU and increasingly recognised internationally; strong academic framework backed by EU government oversight.
Points of consideration
  • Priority admission for EU institution and European Patent Office employees; Category III (private) places are limited - verify your eligibility and apply early.
  • Two-campus split (Fasangarten for KG/Primary, Neuperlach for Secondary) in the south-east of Munich; families based in the north or west of the city should factor in the commute.
