In Brief
The oldest British school in Mexico City and the only one run as a not-for-profit. If British-curriculum schooling in a genuinely bilingual environment matters to you more than facilities size, this is the one to look at closely.
The Edron Academy was founded in 1963 by British educators and has never been acquired by a group or chain. It operates as a non-profit A.C. (asociación civil), which means surpluses go back into the school rather than to shareholders. The result is a culture with a strong sense of mission - teachers describe it as purposeful rather than corporate. With around 1,040 students from a reported 12 nationalities, it is smaller and more locally rooted than Greengates, and the community reflects that: approximately 90% Mexican, 10% international.
The curriculum blends the UK National Curriculum with Mexico's SEP framework throughout primary, then transitions to IGCSE in Years 10-11 and IB Diploma in Years 12-13. Accreditation includes COBIS, BSO inspection (most recently 2023), IB World School status since 1995, and Cambridge IGCSE. The Desierto de los Leones campus sits in Álvaro Obregón - the same general direction as ASF but slightly further south-west, so the commute from Roma, Condesa or Polanco is comparable. Class sizes average 22, maximum 24, with teaching assistants throughout.
Fees are not published and must be requested from admissions. Third-party estimates put annual tuition in the range of MXN 100,000-180,000 depending on year group, which would make it mid-range by Mexico City international school standards. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is available. Edron runs both an after-school programme (Edron+) and a school library. Ask about wait lists - some year groups are heavily subscribed.
What parents value
- –Not-for-profit structure with a 60-year track record. BSO-inspected and COBIS-accredited. IB World School since 1995 with IGCSE as the secondary exit qualification before Diploma.
- –Genuinely bilingual bicultural environment with native English and Spanish teachers at all levels. Duke of Edinburgh Award programme. Average class size of 22, max 24, with TAs throughout.
Points of consideration
- –At approximately 90% Mexican students, the social environment is more locally oriented than at Greengates or Eton School. International families should ask specifically how the school supports new students integrating at secondary level.
- –Fees are not publicly listed. Contact admissions directly for current figures. Demand is solid and some year groups have waiting lists - enquire early if your move to Mexico City is confirmed.
