In Brief
The British School is the right choice if you want a British education with genuine Spanish integration - the BiBac track gives your child both the British curriculum and the Spanish university qualification, which is genuinely useful if your family is here for the long term. It is the oldest British school in Spain and the ISI inspection record is about as good as it gets. For families purely tracking UK university entry, compare it carefully with Runnymede and King's before deciding.
No other British school in Madrid offers what The British School does: a bilingual baccalaureate (BiBac) that combines the British curriculum with Spain's PAU university entrance exam, qualifying students for both UK and Spanish universities from the same programme. In 2025, BiBac students averaged 7.91 out of 10 on the PAU with a 97.6% pass rate, alongside IGCSE results showing 55% A*-A. The school has been here since 1940 and operates from a 26,000 sqm campus in Pozuelo de Alarcon.
The campus infrastructure is well above average for a school at this price level: a 1,200 sqm theatre with 300 seats, science labs with 3D printers and robotics equipment, and a 26,000 sqm site that gives children room to move. Now part of the Inspired Education group, ISI (BSO) inspection results for November 2024 rated the school Excellent in all categories - the fourth consecutive inspection at that rating, which is genuinely rare among Madrid's international schools.
The school does not publish student numbers, which makes independent size assessment difficult - ask at the open day. On staff experience, we found no substantive parent reviews in the public domain; the available review platforms show only a handful of ratings. The Pozuelo location works well for families on the western side of Madrid but adds commute time from the city centre and eastern districts. Ask specifically about the non-BiBac track: if your child will follow a purely British pathway, clarify how the school resources that route alongside the majority BiBac cohort.
What parents value
- –BSO (ISI) Excellent rating across all categories for four consecutive inspections, most recently November 2024. That consistency is as strong an inspection record as any school in Madrid.
- –BiBac dual qualification: IGCSE plus Spanish PAU in one programme. In 2025, BiBac students averaged 7.91 PAU with a 97.6% pass rate. Directly useful if your family may stay in Spain beyond secondary school.
- –26,000 sqm campus in Pozuelo with a proper 300-seat theatre, robotics labs and full sports facilities. The site feels like a school campus rather than a repurposed building - unusual in Madrid at this fee level.
Points of consideration
- –Pozuelo de Alarcon adds real commute time for families east or north of the city. Confirm the school bus routes before visiting - this matters every day, not just occasionally.
- –Published parent reviews are almost non-existent in English. There is limited independent community feedback available online, which makes it harder to assess pastoral care and daily atmosphere before visiting. Visit the school and ask to speak with current families.
