In Brief

The only true full-boarding secondary school in this Lagos list and one of the most established in Nigeria: 35 years old, COBIS-accredited, 9:1 staff-student ratio and a campus that keeps teenagers genuinely out of Lagos traffic five days a week. If you need boarding rather than just preferring it, Atlantic Hall is in a category of one.

Atlantic Hall has operated since 1989 on a 55-acre campus in Poka-Epe, about 55km north-east of Lagos Island on the Lekki-Epe Expressway. Every student boards - there is no day option - which gives the school a tighter community feel than anything you'll find closer to the city. The 9:1 staff-to-student ratio across roughly 650 students is the strongest pastoral statistic in this Lagos shortlist. The school holds COBIS, Cambridge Assessment International Education and British Council accreditations, and runs an IGCSE and WASSCE dual pathway, similar to Meadow Hall but in a full boarding context.

Annual all-inclusive fees for 2025-2026 run NGN 6,000,000-6,700,000, which covers accommodation, meals, activities and tuition - competitive when compared directly with Lagos day schools once you add transport and extras. Atlantic Hall also partners with Carleton University in Canada to offer the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) alongside IGCSE, and participates in the International University Foundation Programme (IUFP), giving students documented pathways to North American and UK universities. The school was founded by the Atlantic Hall Educational Trust Council, an independent Nigerian charity, and has never been commercially owned.

The Poka-Epe location is its defining feature and its main limitation. Families in Lagos see their children at weekends and exeats, not daily - this is a boarding school in the traditional sense, not a school that happens to have beds. Visit on an open day and spend time with current boarding students before deciding: the community is close and the environment calming, but it is genuinely remote by Lagos standards.

What parents value
  • Full boarding only - 55-acre campus 55km from Lagos; 9:1 staff-student ratio. COBIS, Cambridge and British Council accreditations; founded 1989 by an independent educational trust.
  • Annual all-inclusive fees of NGN 6-6.7 million cover tuition, accommodation and meals. OSSD pathway (Carleton University partnership) and IUFP for North American university entry.
Points of consideration
  • Full boarding is mandatory - there is no day option. Families who need daily contact with their child will find this a significant adjustment.
  • Poka-Epe is approximately 55km from Lagos Island: weekend visits require planning, and the location is genuinely rural. Visit before committing to understand what the daily environment looks and feels like.
