Kuwait's only AEFE-partnered French school, founded in 1989 by Mona Al Khaled and based in Salmiya. The default choice for French-speaking families on Kuwait postings.

The school runs the full French national curriculum from maternelle through terminale and the baccalauréat, accredited by the Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale and partnered with AEFE since 2010. Around 1,200 to 1,500 students, more than 40 nationalities, mostly French and Francophone Arab.

The main draw is curriculum continuity with French state schools, making it the obvious pick for families on a French contract or wanting their child to remain inside the French system for a return to France or another AEFE post. Fees sit in the lower bracket compared with the British and American schools in Kuwait, partly because the French state subsidises AEFE costs. The Salmiya campus is older and compact; some families flag the building age and limited outdoor space. For non-Francophone families this is not the school. For French speakers it is the only serious option in Kuwait.

  • Several parents flag that elementary teachers are mostly Lebanese rather than France-trained, and elementary reviews are mixed.
  • One parent said the director's manner felt dismissive, and that admissions favour French-passport families.
  • The Salmiya building has not been refurbished in over twenty years; parents describe it as tired, with non-air-conditioned playgrounds during 50-degree summer heat.
  • One parent said students arriving early have to wait outside before 7:20am because no supervision is provided.
  • Behaviour at the school comes up repeatedly as a concern.
  • Counterweight: one parent described French language outcomes as spectacular, and others report friends with no significant complaints.

Positives

  • French language outcomes. Parents who stayed point to strong French acquisition as the main reason to persist with the school.

Considerations

  • Teaching staff mix. Elementary teachers are reported as predominantly Lebanese rather than France-trained, which several parents see as a quality issue.
  • Admissions and culture. Parents report that French-citizen families are prioritised and that the leadership style felt dismissive in their interactions.
  • Facilities. The Salmiya site has not been renovated in decades, with non-air-conditioned outdoor areas a specific complaint during Kuwait summers.
  • Supervision and safety. Lack of pre-school-day supervision before 7:20am is a recurring practical complaint from working parents.
  • Student behaviour. Multiple posts mention behavioural concerns at the elementary level.
