  • Founded in 1977 as the first bilingual school in the Gulf, Al-Bayan Bilingual School (BBS) is consistently named as one of Kuwait's top private schools alongside AIS and ASK. The signal is highly polarised between recent acute concerns and longer-standing positive history.
  • A single review from August 2025 is one star across the board, alleging that bullying is encouraged or ignored and that students are repeatedly moved between classes until they lose confidence. That account is one voice, but specific.
  • A parent post asking for current staff insight notes that some reviews exist but the parent wants direct teacher perspective. One ex-teacher commenter refers darkly to survivors of the school and warns about housing problems, late pay and passport confiscation. Treat staff complaints as separate from the parent picture.
  • Older parent material frames BBS positively. Parents describe a demanding bilingual curriculum, an active PTA, an open-door staff culture, and a high-quality bilingual peer cohort. University outcomes are reported as 100 percent placement, with around half of graduates going to US universities including UCLA, Berkeley and USC.
  • Counter-criticism from older parent commentary is also present. The high school is described as rigorous to the point of leaving little time for extracurriculars; some families say compulsory Arabic and Islamic studies feel ill-fitted for students aiming at North American or European universities; older facility complaints describe drafty and noisy classrooms.
  • One student comment from May 2023 said the school was just OK and complained about tiny desks and noise.

Positives

  • Established Kuwait top-tier school. Repeatedly named with AIS and ASK among Kuwait's leading private schools; strong university destinations including top US public universities.
  • Bilingual academic standards. Equal-emphasis Arabic and English; demanding curriculum cited by parents as a reason to choose the school.

Considerations

  • Recent bullying and class-shuffling concern. Single recent parent review alleges bullying is ignored and that classes are reshuffled until children lose confidence. One voice, but specific and recent.
  • Workload pressure in the upper school. Older parent commentary describes a high-school programme heavy enough to crowd out extracurriculars.
  • Curriculum fit for North-America-bound students. Compulsory Arabic and Islamic studies seen by some families as out of step with US or European university routes; others see the bilingual identity as a feature.
  • Ageing facilities. Older expat reviews and one Reddit alumna describe drafty, noisy classrooms and tiny desks.
