The Arbor School Dubai
British-curriculum school in Al Furjan, founded by Dr Saad Al Omari and Dr Pirin Erdoğdu around an eco-literacy philosophy, with six biodomes on a 7.5-acre campus and the first UAE winner of the World's Best School Prize for Environmental Action.
In brief
Founded by Dr. Saad Al Omari and Dr. Pirin Erdoğdu with a radical environmental philosophy, The Arbor School serves close to 1,540 students aged 3-18 on a 7.5-acre campus featuring six biodomes and maker spaces. Under Principal Gemma Thornley's leadership, the school follows the British National Curriculum enhanced with eco-literacy embedded across all subjects, BTEC vocational pathways, and an in-house Global Impact EPQ. The teaching staff of 137 teachers maintains an 11:1 student-teacher ratio, with 63% UK-trained educators and strong inclusion support through the THRIVE programme for over 10% of students with additional needs.
Parent discussions reveal particular appreciation for the school's environmental approach and teaching quality, with families describing positive experiences with the primary education experience. The school's recent global recognition validates its environmental education model, though some parents note the premium positioning and compact size compared to established Dubai institutions. Reddit discussions place it among quality British primary options, though it generates moderate visibility compared to tier-one schools like Dubai College or JESS. The school's first A Level graduates won't emerge until 2026, making academic outcomes at senior levels unproven despite the strong environmental programming.

Reviews
Al Furjan British school that has built its identity around eco-literacy. Six biodomes on campus, biodiesel buses, students who spoke at COP28 in Dubai, and in 2025 the first UAE school ever to take a World's Best School Prize, for Environmental Action. KHDA rates it Good; the April 2025 BSO inspection rated it Outstanding. Parents talk warmly about happy children, attentive inclusion staff, and a campus where sustainability is the through-line rather than a marketing line. The growing edges are secondary, the still-young Sixth Form, and a fee level that sits firmly at the premium end for the area.
Positives
- Environmental identity. The eco-literacy spine is real, not branding. Six biodomes are used as living classrooms, buses run on biodiesel, an eco-council and student eco-ambassadors run reef-restoration and similar projects, and Arbor students presented at COP28. In October 2025 the school became the first in the UAE to win a World's Best School Prize, taking the Environmental Action category.
- Inclusion and pastoral. The Thrive inclusion department draws strong, specific praise from families whose children struggled elsewhere. Pastoral staff stay in touch through transitions; children come home tired but excited.
- Inspection and academic standing. KHDA rated the school Good in February 2024, with English, maths and science Very Good in foundation and primary. A separate British Schools Overseas inspection in April 2025 judged the school Outstanding overall, with teaching, behaviour, safeguarding and inclusion all rated highly.
Considerations
- Secondary and Sixth Form maturing. The school grew from primary outwards. Secondary outcomes were called less consistent than primary at the last KHDA visit, and the BSO inspectors flagged that holding standards while the Sixth Form expands will be the test. The first full Year 12 and 13 cohort is small, around 50 students.
- Arabic and Islamic Studies. These subjects sit at Acceptable in the most recent KHDA inspection, against Very Good in the core academic subjects. Improving attainment in both is on the school's stated to-do list.
- Fees and positioning. Annual fees run from roughly AED 49,500 in early years to around AED 90,000 in the upper school for 2025-26, which puts Arbor at the premium end of Al Furjan British schools. Founder-discount families talk about good value; new joiners pay full sticker.
