In brief
Established in 2012 in Dubai Healthcare City as the UAE's only Swiss-inspired international school, SISD operates under Nord Anglia Education with a focus on multilingual education and character development rooted in Swiss traditions. The school offers the complete International Baccalaureate continuum from PYP through DP and CP, enhanced by innovative BTEC Level 3 pathways in Business, Hospitality, and Sport, plus a pioneering BTEC Level 2 in Esports. Students can pursue bilingual tracks in English-French or English-German, with language instruction that reportedly exceeds typical UAE school standards.
The state-of-the-art campus features STEAM innovation labs, an Olympic-sized pool, organic gardens, and eco-friendly design that has earned DEWA Conservation recognition and Minergie certification. Boarding options accommodate students aged 11-17 with flexible arrangements including full-time, weekly, and flexi boarding. Despite KHDA Very Good ratings across all phases and recognition for academic excellence, the school's reputation among teaching professionals appears significantly compromised, with multiple Reddit discussions describing it as among the worst working environments in Dubai's international education sector.
Strengths
- Full IB continuum with innovative BTEC vocational pathways
- Authentic bilingual education in English-French or English-German
- Comprehensive boarding program with flexible options
- Exceptional facilities including Olympic-sized pool and STEAM labs
- Highly international community with 100+ nationalities represented
- Strong sustainability credentials with multiple environmental certifications
- Swiss educational philosophy emphasizing character development
Considerations
- Multiple recent teacher discussions describe extremely poor working conditions and management
- High teacher turnover rates based on consistent negative feedback
- Premium fees may not reflect current educational delivery quality
- Location in Dubai Healthcare City may limit accessibility for some families
- Significant disconnect between marketing materials and reported staff experiences

Reviews
SISD sits on a spacious Al Jaddaf campus and runs a properly bilingual IB pathway in English plus French or German, with two teachers in the room and a Swiss Matura option alongside the Diploma. It is one of only two schools in the UAE with full boarding, currently around 120 boarders living on campus with day students. KHDA has held the school at Very Good since the 2023-24 inspection, with Outstanding in curriculum design, personal development, safeguarding, and care in KG and Diploma. Parents who post about SISD tend to praise the pastoral feel, the depth of the language teaching, and the broad facilities; the recurring complaints are around premium fees, MYP teaching consistency, and a heavy workload at Diploma. A leadership change lands in August 2026, with Pauline Nord taking over from Ruth Burke.
Positives
- Bilingual pathway. The English-French and English-German co-teaching model is what most families come for, and parents single out the quality of French and German instruction. Around 45 percent of the Diploma cohort graduates with a bilingual or advanced bilingual Diploma, which is unusual in Dubai.
- Pastoral feel and community. More than 100 nationalities on campus and parents describe a settled, low-cliques atmosphere. Care and support in KG and Diploma are KHDA Outstanding, and boarding families talk warmly about how their children are looked after.
- Facilities and campus. Olympic pool, athletics track, multi-sports hall, science labs, and a new outdoor learning space added in 2025. The Al Jaddaf plot is large by Dubai standards and feels calmer than the school's enrolment of close to 3,000 would suggest.
- Boarding option. One of only two schools in the UAE offering full boarding, with weekly and flexi options. Around 120 boarders from Estonia, Germany, Turkey, Ukraine, India, Kazakhstan, Saudi and elsewhere; in-house teacher tutoring runs 5 to 8pm. Boarders posted a higher average IB Diploma score than day students in 2024.
Considerations
- IB Diploma outcomes. The 2024 cohort averaged 33.2 with a 100 percent pass rate, comfortably above the world average, and graduates collected over USD 10m in scholarship offers. The school does not chase the very top of the IB league table and 2025 results were not published with the same detail. KHDA also flagged that MYP teaching needs the same lift recently seen in Primary and Diploma.
- Fees and add-ons. Day fees run from around AED 67,000 in KG to AED 114,000 at post-16, with weekly boarding from AED 194,000 and full boarding above AED 230,000. Parents who say SISD represents value still flag the running list of trips, donations and resources on top of fees.
- Workload at Diploma. Older students describe late-night workloads and limited time to make use of the wider co-curricular programme. Some say facilities like the climbing wall sit underused by the cohorts who would most benefit.
- Communication and admin. Teachers and senior leaders are generally described as accessible, but parents ask for a single consolidated school app rather than the current spread of channels. Indeed reviews from staff side mention administrative load and a busy internal culture.
- Ownership and leadership. Part of Nord Anglia since 2023. Principal Ruth Burke steps down at the end of 2025-26, with Pauline Nord, previously Director General at College du Leman in Geneva, taking over in August 2026. Head of Secondary Paul Gardner is also leaving. The Swiss-school positioning is being kept rather than broadened.
Leadership
Ruth Burke
Ruth Burke is the Principal and CEO of Swiss International Scientific School Dubai since May 2021, bringing extensive leadership experience from prior roles including Director at Deira International School (2018-2020), Principal at GEMS Education (2015-2018), and Head Teacher at JESS Dubai (2007-2015).
