A NEASC-accredited US-curriculum school in Al Qusais, open since 2003, that lifted to a Good KHDA rating in 2023-2024 after a long stretch at Acceptable.

AIS teaches around 2,700 students from KG1 to Grade 12 on a Common Core-aligned American programme, with Advanced Placement courses and SAT testing on site. Dr Layne B. Hunt leads the school. Fees sit at the affordable end of Dubai's American schools, with the upper-grade fee around AED 21,700.

The KHDA inspection lift was the headline shift. Parents describe stronger leadership, better communication and clearer feedback than a few years ago. Where the same inspection found gaps was in science, music and art provision and in some cramped classrooms, and a recurring concern in the parent community has been bullying. The honest summary is a competent, value-priced American option that is on an upward arc.

  • One of Dubai's longest-running American-curriculum schools, opened 2003, on 6th Street in Al Qusais 1. Runs an international programme to Grade 12 with Advanced Placement courses in High School.
  • KHDA rated AIS Acceptable for 11 consecutive years before lifting the rating to Good in 2024, the school's first Good in its history. Inspectors flagged limited subject choice in arts, literature, government, mathematics and economics for high-school students.
  • Parents give a middling rating across 34 reviews. 53% of parents would recommend the school, 17% would not, and 64% expressed moderate or greater concern about bullying. 61% described fees as reasonable value.
  • Recurring parent criticisms are around academic outcomes, with many families adding tutoring, and around classroom space, communication and disciplinary policy. KHDA also flagged staffing and resource gaps in science, music, art, design and PE.
  • KG and Grade 1 parent feedback is stronger than upper-grade feedback. Parents describe the youngest cohorts as well looked after by dedicated staff. Bullying complaints, supervisor conduct and bathroom cleanliness recur in mixed reviews.
  • Fees sit at the value end of Dubai's American-curriculum market, AED 13,405 to 21,732 a year, which is part of why families choose it despite the inspection history.

Positives

  • Early Years. KG1 staff and lower-school provision repeatedly praised as the strongest part of the school
  • Value. Fees positioned at the value end of Dubai's American-curriculum market, with most surveyed parents describing them as reasonable

Considerations

  • KHDA inspection trajectory. 11 consecutive Acceptable ratings then a Good in 2024; gaps in staffing and resources across arts, music and PE flagged
  • Academic outcomes. Parents report needing tutoring; KHDA wants performance in external benchmarks raised
  • Bullying. Around two-thirds of surveyed parents expressed moderate or greater concern about bullying
