In Brief

BSB is the right choice if you want a British curriculum from age 2 to 18, more than 2,000 students across campuses, and the only BSO Outstanding school in Catalonia. Families further from Castelldefels should look closely at the BSB City campus before committing.

BSB is part of Cognita and the largest British international school in the region, with five campuses spanning Castelldefels, BSB City (Barcelona), Nexus sixth form, Sitges, and the recently opened Maresme. BSO Outstanding in every category in both 2023 and 2024 - the only school in Catalonia to hold this. IB average 34.0 in 2024; A-Level results are strong and improving. Executive Principal Neil Tetley joined in 2024 following a long tenure at Hastings School in Madrid.

The Castelldefels campus is purpose-built and spacious - families based in Castelldefels, Gava, or Sitges find it straightforward. Families in central Barcelona increasingly choose BSB City, which opened its Main Campus in 2024 and runs Early Years through Year 11. The school uses 1:1 devices from age 7 and has Good Schools Guide reviews for each campus.

Cognita ownership means the school operates at scale and with corporate discipline; pastoral warmth is evident in Good Schools Guide reviews but some families looking for a smaller community feel choose Oak House instead. Fees at BSB City run slightly higher than Castelldefels; check the campus-specific schedule before comparing.

What parents value
  • BSO Outstanding in every category (2024) - the only school in Catalonia with this rating. Strong and improving A-Level and IB outcomes.
  • Five campuses including BSB City in central Barcelona. Over 2,000 students from 74+ nationalities. Strong support and wellbeing team.
Points of consideration
  • Cognita group ownership; for families weighing corporate vs. community feel, compare with Oak House. Fees vary by campus - check BSB City vs. Castelldefels schedule.
  • Castelldefels campus is 20-25 minutes from central Barcelona by train. For families in the city, BSB City is the practical option but has no sixth form on site - Year 12-13 move to BSB Nexus.
