IB Results in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi IB Diploma schools ranked by published average. GEMS American Academy leads at 38; Bateen, ACS, BISAD and Raha sit in the upper third globally.
The brief
- Highest published DP average in Abu Dhabi: GEMS American Academy at 38 (2024). Then Abu Dhabi International School at 35 (2025, 100% pass, top 43), Bateen World Academy at 34.3 / 33 (2024-25, five years above global), Raha Gardens at 34 (2024) and British International School Abu Dhabi at 33.9 (2025). All five sit above the worldwide May 2024 average of 30.32.
- Full PYP + MYP + DP continuum: Bateen, Raha Gardens, Raha Khalifa City, Emirates National Schools MBZ, The Australian School and Global Indian International School. Bateen is the longest-running and only Aldar campus running the continuum plus the IB Career-related Programme.
- DP entry at 16 from a different curriculum: ACS Abu Dhabi (American + IB), BIS Abu Dhabi (British + IB), ADIS (US Common Core into IB or A Level or AP), and Al Najah (UK + IGCSE into DP).
- No published DP results yet: GEMS World Academy launches the Diploma in August 2026. Nord Anglia on Al Reem is British-only; the Nord Anglia IB Diploma in Abu Dhabi sits at sister school BIS Abu Dhabi.
- "IB" here means the Diploma Programme: six subjects (three Higher, three Standard) plus Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and CAS. Graded out of 45 across Year 12 and Year 13. The worldwide average is around 30, pass rate near 80%. ADEK inspects every Abu Dhabi private school annually; ratings run Outstanding, Very Good, Good, Acceptable and Weak.
Around ten Abu Dhabi schools are authorised to deliver the IB Diploma. Fewer than half publish a meaningful average. The list below sorts those that do, then catalogues the rest.
Ranked by published DP average
The most recent published cohort, where the school puts the number on its own website or in its inspection materials.
GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
Khalifa City. Ages 3 to 18. Fees AED 57,850 to 80,610. ADEK Very Good (2024-25), with curriculum and pastoral care Outstanding.
Published DP average 38 (2024). The 2025 cohort produced individual 45s and 42s against a whole-cohort average in the low 30s, so the headline reflects a strong recent year rather than a settled five-year trend. One of two Abu Dhabi campuses where families can pick DP or AP inside the same school. Parents run unusually negative on value at the AED 80,000 top-of-school price.
Abu Dhabi International School
Al Manhal and MBZ City. Ages 3 to 18. Fees AED 25,000 to 47,950. Founded 1992. ADEK Very Good (2025-26). US Common Core to Grade 8, then a choice of American/AP, British IGCSE and A Level, or IB Diploma at the MBZ campus.
DP average 35 in 2025, 100% pass, top 43, with 81% of grades at 5+ and 55% at 6+. The 2025 A Level cohort also passed at 100%, with 36% at A*/A. ADIS is the multi-pathway option at mid-tier fees, well below the Saadiyat premium pack, and added the Diploma in 2005. Inspectors and internal MAP data both flag uneven progress in the middle school and limited stretch for the strongest learners; the exam numbers run ahead of the day-to-day progress signal.
Bateen World Academy
Al Manaseer. Ages 3 to 18. Fees AED 54,000 to 75,310. ADEK Outstanding (2024-25), up from Very Good in 2021-22. The only Abu Dhabi school running the full IB continuum plus the IB Career-related Programme.
DP average 34.3 in 2024 (97% pass), then 33 in 2025 across a larger cohort of 58, again at 97% pass. A small group reach above 40 each year. Diploma averages have run above the global benchmark for five consecutive years. Bateen is the reference IB school for families committed to the pathway from primary; the IGCSE bridge gives an exit from the MYP route. Arabic-medium subjects and a recurring fee-versus-value question are the parent grumbles.
Raha International School, Gardens Campus
Khalifa City. Ages 3 to 18. Fees AED 41,960 to 66,030. ADEK Very Good (2025), reconfirmed after losing Outstanding in 2023. Full PYP through DP continuum, run by Aldar.
DP average 34 in 2024, 96% pass. The cohort sits at over 120 averaging close to 33 across recent years, with a small group pushing past 40. Holding that level across a non-selective intake of that size is structurally harder than the same number on a selected group. Raha Gardens was the first school in the capital to run the full IB pathway end to end. Leadership churn through 2023-24 has now settled under a principal who arrived in August 2025.
British International School Abu Dhabi
Shakhbout City. Ages 3 to 18. Fees AED 54,204 to 76,952. ADEK Outstanding (2025-26) plus Outstanding for National Identity. Nord Anglia's Abu Dhabi dual-track British and IB school.
DP average 33.9 in 2025 and 33.6 in 2024, both at 99% pass, with near-perfect 44-point individual scores. IGCSE outcomes track at a comparable level. The Diploma sits alongside A Levels at sixth form. Geography is the structural cost: a 30 to 40 minute morning commute from Saadiyat or Reem, and on-top costs (EAL surcharges, tablets from Year 2, exam fees, transport near AED 8,000) push the headline up.
Raha International School, Khalifa City Campus
Khalifa City. Ages 3 to 18. Fees AED 41,550 to 65,500. ADEK Good (first inspection, Feb 2024). Aldar's newer Raha campus.
Reported DP figures around 33 with a 95% pass rate and a top score of 43. The first Year 12 arrived in 2024-25 and the first DP graduates land in 2026, so this is the earliest possible signal rather than a settled track record. Older students flag teachers still new to IB and a heavy workload in a programme finding its rhythm. The campus is a clear step up from the older Gardens build.
American Community School Abu Dhabi
Saadiyat Island. Ages 3 to 18. Fees AED 56,526 to 99,060. Founded 1972; relocated to a purpose-built Saadiyat campus in January 2024. ADEK Outstanding (2023). Non-profit, US State Department-affiliated.
ACS publishes university destinations rather than a DP average: 87% of leavers land one of their top three university choices, with the US the dominant destination. The Diploma runs alongside an American diploma and AP, with accreditation through Middle States, the IB, and NESA. The absent average is an institutional choice rather than a thin programme.
Al Najah Private School
MBZ City. Ages 4 to 18. Fees AED 15,060 to 32,300. Founded 1987. ADEK Good across three consecutive cycles. UK curriculum to IGCSE, then a choice of A Level or IB Diploma.
IB data is stale and narrow: a 2020 figure of 100% of students earning the Diploma, and a historical 98% Diploma-earned rate. No published recent average. Al Najah is the most affordable route into the IB Diploma in the emirate by some margin, drawing heavily from the Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian expat communities.

How to read these numbers
Selectivity matters more than the number. A school averaging 35 from an IGCSE-filtered intake is doing different work to one averaging 34 from an open-access cohort of 120. Raha Gardens carries a non-selective Diploma cohort over a hundred strong; Bateen pulls from a long IGCSE-bridged feeder; ADIS sits at a much lower fee bracket. Headline averages miss the underlying differences in who sits the exam.
One year is not a trend. GEMS American's 38 is one published year. Bateen has run five consecutive years above the global average. A single strong cohort in a small year group is not the same signal as sustained delivery.
Cohort size shapes volatility. A small group amplifies both high and low results. Raha Gardens (over 120) and Bateen's 2025 group of 58 are statistically more stable than a 15-pupil senior year. A school that publishes an average without the cohort size has chosen what to disclose.
ADEK inspection runs in parallel. Inspection covers teaching, leadership, behaviour, inclusion, and Arabic and Islamic provision. ACS, Bateen and BIS hold Outstanding; ADIS, Raha Gardens and GEMS American sit at Very Good. Holding a strong IB average and a strong ADEK rating together is the signal most families want; the two do not always move together.
Schools with no public DP results
Five Abu Dhabi schools run, or will run, the IB Diploma without a published average:
- GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi on Al Reem launches the Diploma and Career-related Programme in August 2026 (ADEK Very Good; facilities Outstanding). First DP results will not arrive before 2028.
- The Australian School of Abu Dhabi in Shakhbout City runs PYP, MYP and DP over the Australian curriculum at a low fee point (AED 15,600 to 37,030). No published DP average.
- Global Indian International School in Baniyas East runs CBSE as the primary track with IB DP as an option through the wider GSF network. Published results are on CBSE Class 10 and 12, not the Diploma.
- Emirates National Schools, Mohamed Bin Zayed runs the full IB continuum alongside an American/AP track on a 4,000-pupil campus. ADEK Very Good across recent cycles, with Outstanding for National Identity, but no published DP average. Standardised assessment data (PISA reading, TIMSS maths) sits below international averages.
- Nord Anglia International School Abu Dhabi on Al Reem is a British-curriculum school. The Diploma inside the Nord Anglia network in Abu Dhabi sits at sister school BIS Abu Dhabi, not here.
