Inter-Community School Zurich
Founded in 1960, ICS is Zurich's oldest international school and the only one offering all three IB programmes (PYP, MYP, DP) on a single campus in Zumikon. Annual fees run from CHF 24,300 (Nursery 2) to CHF 39,900 (Grades 11-12)…
In brief
The oldest international school in greater Zurich, IB through the full PYP, MYP and DP, sitting on a single campus in Zumikon a quarter hour from the city centre.
ICS opened in 1960 and now teaches around 800 students from over 55 nationalities, ages 2 to 18. The school is the only one in Zurich offering all three IB programmes, with a bilingual diploma option, and 2025 results gave an average IB score of 34, the top student scoring 44. Learning support and EAL are funded in-house up to grade 10, which is a meaningful draw for relocating families.
Parents describe a warm community with strong teacher engagement and a Waldkinder outdoor strand for younger children. The campus is functional rather than glossy, and several reviews note facilities lag the fees, although academic and pastoral results are strong enough that most families consider the trade fair. Zumikon sits on the gold coast side of the lake, so the location works well for families east of the city and adds commute time for those west.

Reviews
- Small IB Continuum day school in Zumikon, regularly named on tier-one lists of European international schools alongside Zurich International School and the Ecolint family.
- Teachers in international forums describe a community-feel school with a developed inquiry-based approach and supportive transitions for incoming and outgoing IB families.
- Local Zurich resident put it bluntly that ICSZ is "great for expats" but warned that real integration with Swiss children happens more in the public system.
- IB results sit in a respectable middle band for Switzerland; one teacher salary thread notes ICSZ packages are lower than at ISZL or ISB, which is sometimes flagged as a recruitment risk over time.
- Independent parent voice online is limited; most public commentary comes from teaching staff and ranking lists rather than detailed parent posts.
