In brief
The first accredited Montessori school in Asia, running classes from age 2 to 14 in Minami-Azabu. The natural pick for families committed to Montessori through middle school in central Tokyo.
MST runs four programme levels, from Little People for ages 2 to 3 through Sunshine, Elementary and an Erdkinder middle school for ages 12 to 14. The school is fully accredited by the International Montessori Council and most guides hold AMI training. The campus sits in Minami-Azabu, walkable for the embassy district and the Hiroo and Azabu addresses where most of the international families it serves are based.
Families come for a real Montessori environment rather than a hybrid, and the teaching team is the headline strength. The school stops at grade 8, so anyone planning here needs a secondary plan, and most students transfer into ASIJ, KIST, BST, Seisen or one of the other established options. Tuition runs in the low-to-mid Tokyo band rather than at the top.
Reviews
- Public parent-facing signal is light, but available commentary points to a close international Montessori community, independence, outdoor work, and purposeful learning as the main draw.
- Staff comments are more mixed, praising prepared classrooms and supportive parents while raising concerns about leadership style, micromanagement, pay, and limited progression.
