In brief
An all-girls double-diploma program inside Kunimoto Gakuen in Setagaya, running the Alberta curriculum alongside the Japanese national curriculum from Grade 7.
KAIS opened in April 2020 as a new stream within an established Japanese girls' school in Kitami, Setagaya. Students enter at Grade 7 and graduate with both an Alberta high school diploma and a Japanese diploma, with teaching staff certified by Alberta Education. The shared campus brings library, science rooms, gym, lacrosse field, and tennis courts, plus traditional features like a tea ceremony room.
The model fits bicultural families and Japanese families committed to a domestic base who want a credentialed English-medium pathway to Canadian, US, or other overseas universities. It is not a traditional international school in feel, the cohort skews Japanese, and the international stream is still small. Families who want a fully expat environment from kindergarten will look elsewhere.
