A small British curriculum primary in Jiyugaoka with a long history in the area, suited to families wanting a community feel rather than the scale of the larger Tokyo names.

Gregg International School traces back to a 1964 English language school and the international primary opened in 1986. The Meguro-ku address has been the campus since 1972. The school caps at age 12 and runs the English national curriculum with low teacher to student ratios. Teachers know every child across the small cohort, which is part of why families pick it.

Parent voice is mixed. Positive comments centre on the teachers, the atmosphere and the close relationships. Critical comments focus on contract handling at admission and individual communication issues. As with any small school the experience can be uneven and depends heavily on the year group. Families need a plan for secondary school, and most move on to BST, ASIJ, KIST or one of the IB schools.

  • Independent reviews on Gregg are limited and split. Some parents describe their children as happy at the school and credit the small, family-feel environment. One parent called it "an outstanding choice for my child's education".
  • Other reviews describe communication breakdowns. One parent said the foreign homeroom teacher focused on timetables and that the Japanese staff lacked a clear care system, with limited responsiveness to parent concerns.
  • A separate review flagged a contract-signing experience during interview where the family was rushed and not allowed to read the document fully. That account is one voice and the timeframe is unclear.
  • The school's small scale and Jiyugaoka location are consistent draws for families wanting a low student-teacher ratio in a residential part of Tokyo.
