Yongsan International School of Seoul
Christian-faith American-curriculum school in Yongsan serving around 1,000 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12, with dual WASC and ACSI accreditation. Fees for 2025-26 combine a Korean Won tuition component with a USD activity and technology fee; total annual cost runs…
In brief
A large American-curriculum K-12 with a Christian identity in central Itaewon, popular with expat families who want US-track AP and a faith-anchored community within easy reach of Yongsan.
YISS sits on Itaewon-ro in Yongsan-gu, runs a US curriculum culminating in AP, and is fully accredited by WASC and ACSI with SMOE recognition. Roll has grown from around 500 when NICS took over in 2006 to roughly 975 students from more than 40 nationalities. Two parallel programmes split religious instruction: NICS students take Bible and chapel, Oasis students from other faith backgrounds take character education and assembly.
Families who choose YISS value the warm community feel, the accessible Itaewon location and the AP and college counselling track into US universities. The recurring complaints are that academics can feel uneven next to SFS, that the Christian framing is more present than the marketing suggests, and that pastoral handling at middle school has been inconsistent. The campus is the standout draw for expats who want to stay in central Seoul rather than commute to Bundang for SIS or to Seongbuk for SFS.

Reviews
- The positive signal is clear on students, families, location, campus, and the sense of purpose in the school community.
- The negative signal is also clear: staff reviews repeatedly flag leadership transparency, governance tension, turnover, pay gaps, and support for teachers.
- Public controversy around governance and operator arrangements is part of the school’s online footprint, so families should expect a polarised picture rather than a simple reputation story.
