Lycée Pasteur de São Paulo

The historic Liceu Pasteur, founded in 1923 by the French community in São Paulo, now relaunched as Liceu Pasteur Start Anglo under SOMOS Educação as a Portuguese-English bilingual school with French as a second foreign language.

The historic Liceu Pasteur, founded in 1923 by the French community in São Paulo, now relaunched as Liceu Pasteur Start Anglo under SOMOS Educação as a Portuguese-English bilingual school with French as a second foreign language.

After more than a century as a Franco-Brazilian school, management was taken over in 2024 by SOMOS Educação, part of Cogna. The AEFE-homologated French stream moved to the separate Lycée International Français in Vila Mariana. What remains under the Liceu Pasteur name is now a Start Anglo flagship, marketed as trilingual but in practice English-dominant with eight subjects taught in English and French reduced to two weekly classes.

Families weighing this school are choosing the new Start Anglo model rather than the old French institution. Strong-teaching Brazilian content paired with serious English immersion, full-day schooling with sports and socio-emotional add-ons, and the heritage building on the original Higienópolis-area site. Anyone seeking the French Baccalaureate should look at the Lycée International Français instead.

  • The historic Liceu Pasteur (founded 1923 as a Franco-Brazilian school in São Paulo) is now operated by SOMOS Educação as Liceu Pasteur Start Anglo, a Brazilian-curriculum trilingual bilingual school (Portuguese / English / French) on the original Vila Mariana site.
  • Parents on Brazilian school-parent trackers rate the institution highly , average 4.5 , with top scores for community participation, infrastructure, socio-emotional development and student motivation.
  • One parent quoted: early-years education "surprised" them, child's emotional, social and cognitive development was excellent in the first year, family felt welcomed despite not being French.
  • The 2024 SOMOS / Start Anglo takeover shifted the school towards more English than French. Some legacy families have raised concerns publicly about the change of identity.
  • Reviews predating 2024 reflect the old AEFE-aligned Lycée Pasteur and are less relevant to the school's current curriculum.
