Czech outpost of the BASIS charter network from Arizona, running a high-pressure American academic model with AP courses and small classes. Strong on academic challenge, with one serious bullying complaint sitting against otherwise positive parent feedback.

BASIS Prague opened in 2018 as the first European campus of the BASIS network, founded in Arizona in 1998 by economists Olga and Michael Block. Olga Block is Czech, which explains the choice of Prague. The school covers ages five to nineteen, with a structured academic curriculum and AP courses leading to a US high school diploma.

Parents describe small classes with two teachers, named relationships with staff, regular access to a school psychologist, and children who feel academically stretched. The dissenting voice is significant. One parent reported sustained bullying and a perceived dismissive response from leadership, including an incident with a knife at lunch. Worth raising directly with the school during a tour. A second campus in a Bubenec villa is opening in September 2026.

  • The five reviews on the International Schools Database, all dated late 2025 to early 2026, are clustered at the extremes: four five-star and one one-star. Treat the four positive reviews as a likely concentrated burst rather than a steady stream.
  • The positive reviews speak well of small classes, the two-teacher model with a subject expert and a learning expert in the same room, individual attention, friendly atmosphere, and visible academic progress. One parent praised parent-teacher-pupil communication and external psychologist visits.
  • The one-star review reports ongoing bullying, a child defending himself and being penalised for it, and a separate incident where a student threatened the writer's son with a knife at lunch. The parent says the school's response felt dismissive, with no proper investigation.
  • The school is American-curriculum with AP, run on the BASIS network's two-teacher model. No useful Reddit, Mumsnet or expat.com signal surfaced for the Prague campus specifically. The bullying account is a single voice and warrants the named caveat that the school's wider Reddit footprint, by contrast with BASIS sites in China, is essentially silent.
