American School of Paris
Long-established American-curriculum school on a 5-hectare campus in Saint-Cloud, serving students from over 63 nationalities. 2026-27 tuition runs from EUR 25,000 (Early Childhood) to EUR 41,400 (Grades 9-12), plus a one-time EUR 12,200 capital assessment.
In brief
The grand old American school in Saint-Cloud, founded in 1946 as the first American school in postwar Europe, with around 800 students from prek to Grade 12 and a long-established IB Diploma alongside AP.
ASP is the default English-medium choice for American families on assignment in Paris. The campus on rue Pasteur is large by Paris standards at four hectares, the IB has been running for over thirty years, and roughly two thirds of seniors take either IB or AP. About 65 nationalities sit on the roll.
The Parent Faculty Association does heavy lifting on landings, and families describe a warm, plug-in-ready expat community. Where the school divides opinion is academic rigour. Some families say the teaching prepares strong students well for selective US universities. Others, particularly those coming from US East Coast independents, find expectations gentler than expected. Sport in the lower and middle school is fine but not a destination programme. Best understood as a community-first American school where the family experience tends to outshine the academic ceiling.

Reviews
- ASP draws a strong, vocal positive community among American expat families in the western suburbs. Parents praise the welcoming onboarding, an active Parent Faculty Association and small-class attention, and describe families as engaged and energetic.
- Teachers come up consistently as the school's strength: caring, collaborative, focused on supporting struggling students rather than fostering competition.
- College outcomes are a recurring positive. One alumni-parent noted ASP's counsellor track record gets specific praise from European universities like IE for being American-style. The school is also one of the most competitive employers on the international circuit, with teacher recruitment lines reportedly stretching across job-fair ballrooms.
- The most consistent criticism is academic rigour. Some parents say expectations were low, homework limited, tests rare, and that their child's work deteriorated after enrolling. Communication about classroom content also drew complaints.
- Limited French instruction is a recurring caveat for families who want their children to integrate with the host country. Parents who valued French immersion often chose French public schools or bilingual options instead.
