In brief
Kenya's best-known British boarding and day school, set on a 45-acre campus within Northlands Ranch off the Nairobi-Thika road, taking around 400 pupils aged 13 to 18.
Peponi takes pupils through IGCSE, AS and A Level, with full boarding, weekly boarding and day options across four houses of around 65 to 70 students each. Sedge House handles the younger boarders. Fees place it among the most expensive schools in Kenya, and the campus, altitude, sport and pastoral setup are all part of why families pay it. Many pupils arrive from Peponi House at 13.
The boarding model is the central choice. Weekly boarding gives pupils midweek immersion and weekend family time, and remains popular with Nairobi-based families who want the boarding experience without sending children far. Diplomatic and corporate families use the full boarding option for posting flexibility. Academic results are solid rather than spectacular, and parents who push hardest tend to be those who use Peponi as a UK university feeder. The bush setting suits some children and unsettles others.

Reviews
- Sits in the established top tier alongside ISK, Brookhouse, Hillcrest and St Andrew's Turi in Kenyan parent and alumni discussion online. The shorthand is "top schools: Kenton, Peponi, Hillcrest, ISK and St Andrews Turi" , Peponi is named in that group, not above it.
- Boarding-led culture. Full and weekly boarding has been part of the school's life for nearly thirty years; one ex-boarder said tuition and boarding charges were already approaching today's headline numbers more than a decade ago.
- Cost is the main public criticism. Kenyan commenters repeatedly group Peponi with ISK and Braeburn as out of reach for typical local families, and frame this as an access issue rather than a quality one.
- The Independent Schools Inspectorate's BSO inspection is the only recent third-party assessment widely cited; parents and alumni tend not to question academic standards.
Head of school
Mark Durston
Mark Durston first came to Kenya to fulfill his passion and interest in the natural world. Shortly after completing his A’Levels he was awarded a prize that enabled him to spend a number of months studying elephant conservation and more specifically their impact on their environment. After taking his degree he continued to study in Biological areas before eventually changing course and entered education. Much of his career was spent at Cheltenham College where he became a Housemaster of Christowe. He continued to have a real interest for the Biological Sciences and made regular visits to Kenya studying at the University of Nairobi and the National Museums. He also took practical interest in various charities and has worked with a number of local schools around the country. In 2009 he was appointed to the leadership of Peponi School and, in his words begun the second and final phase of his career. He is ambitious for the school and views the opportunities provided by the International sector in Kenya, and particularly, Peponi School as equal and often better than our contemporary schools in the United Kingdom. The passion for education and the national view of its importance is prevalent throughout the country. Mark’s commitment to founding principles of the school is focused and unwavering. Schools, such as Peponi should be educating children to become valued citizens of a wider community both nationally and globally. They should be prepared for the challenges beyond school and be willing to participate in society in an ambitious, compassionate and forward thinking way. Peponi pupils have much to contribute and should be able and willing leaders in whatever walk of life their talents and interests take them.
